I grew up in Houston during the 1970's. There was new construction everywhere and the city was much cleaner than it is now. Two remarks I recall from visiting friends/relatives are "you can practically smell the money everywhere" and "this is the cleanest city I have ever seen".

Most of the downtown Houston skyline was built during the 70's and early 80's. The Galleria was built then, Astroworld was still nice, the Greenway Plaza/Summit area was new and full, most of the malls were doing well. Even Northline Mall was doing alright in the early/mid 70's.

I think history will show that Houston was at its peak then.

The 1970s was ok -- but, if you really wanted to see Houston in its prime (regarding cleanliness, plentiful jobs, inexpensive housing and low crime), you should have been here in the 1960s. Actually the late 1950s and the early-to-mid 1960s. There was no better place to live and be successful that Houston in those days.

Totally irrelevent. Two different parts of the same industry. Interconnected feedstocks.

For example, from their site:

The ExxonMobil Baytown area is the largest integrated refining and petrochemical complex in the United States. Learn more at ExxonMobil.com.
