I know this isn't the gardening forum but I rather ask people who actually live in the same city that I live in. I turned off my sprinklers for the last two weeks when it started to get real cold at night. I have Saint Augustine grass. Should I turn on the sprinklers again or wait till early next year?

I’ve stopped about a couple of months ago when he had consistent rain. The ground doesn’t dry as quickly anymore.

I never watered my grass even throughout the summer. Hehe, it is actually doing even better than my neighbors' grass

I shut off my sprinkler system in October. No need to water again until the Spring.
St. Augustine grass goes dormant in the winter, and winter is our rainy season in Houston so you should be good.

The highest rainfall frequency is actually found in summer, although winter constitutes a secondary peak.

Interesting. Summers can be feast or famine. Winters seem fairly predictable with the fronts blowing through every couple of weeks, sometimes days after the other.

Do you agree it is safe to stop watering St. Augustine until temps heat up again?

I could elaborate, but they did it much better:

Generally, if you care about your grass, you should not stop watering your lawn in Fall until the ground freezes, which happens very seldom.

It depends. Summer rains are more reliable in areas south of I-10/east of 69, and not all winter fronts bring rain.

But yes, there's no need to water until April or so, unless you overseed with rye.

We've been getting enough rain the past few months, I haven't been watering mine. Probably won't need to until March or so.
