Katy
Hello we are considering moving to Katy. Is Katy a good place to raise a family? Also how many months out of the year do most people just stay inside due to the weather?

Katy is an excellent place to raise a family. Weather generally doesn't keep people in. It really isn't as bad as people think.

We will arrive in the later half of May and can't wait.
Coming from southern Louisiana the weather in Houston will be what we already know.
As far as raising a family, the several trips we made out to Katy over a period of a year confirmed that Katy looks like a great place.
We all can't wait to go.

Some people stay inside a lot, and others you can't keep them inside for long. For otherwise healthy people, it all boils down to the wimp factor. (The CA coast produces a lot of weather wimps IMO.) I personally spend a good amount of time outdoors in the summer around the house. Survival items necessary are light cotton clothing, a connected water hose to keep my head wet, and a gallon jug of drinking water. My breaking point is when it gets to 100+, which happens only a few days out of the year. And even during those days, those temps only hold for a few hours in mid-afternoon. There are hotter places in this country, including parts of CA.

re: Katy?
Moved to Katy from the Seattle area last August. Yeah, it can get kinda hot, but just get in the shade. The only thing that still is kinda hard for me to deal with is being in the direct sunlight along with the heat. One of the other posts says it best...light cotton clothing, water hose and readily available drinking water. Was out in the yard this past Sunday, weeding and spreading mulch, cutting the grass. Wore a hat and was really sweating but I survived. I can't imagien what weather here would keep folks inside.
