Has anyone here ever lived or considered living on the east side? How undesirable is the east, do people living near those industrial chemical plants have a higher chance of developing illness?

Ugh. I grew ups swimming in the San Jacinto, though this is downstream from there. Still, this is really screwed up.

Can't find a current map - this one is from 2015, however I doubt much (negative/positive) changes happened since.

You can also use this interactive map:

or

But read this article about Harvey spills:

Google the topic.

The only desirable part of east “Houston proper” is Clear Lake if you could even call it “east”. But even then- there are hundreds of pipelines in that area.

And then down that way, you've got stuff like the Brio site, which now has brand-new residential development right up against it.

Quite a few people consider Mont Belvieu to be nice.

Its east of the majority of the plants and the prevailing wind direction in Houston is from the Southeast - so the pollution from the plants is being blown away from Mont Belvieu.

Wind direction shifts from east to west in the winter months, and occasionally in the summer, but I would say Mont Belvieu is considered a nicer area than anything else on the east.

Upper middle class, mainly well paid plant workers, with a median household income of nearly $94,000. Its far from a ghetto...Nice new subdivision popping up all the time and good schools.
