I don't look at any of the other major city sub-forums on CD, do people pop up daily in the NY, LA, Chicago, etc etc etc forums asking where the LGBT safe communities are or is that something special to Houston? I really have to ask if these people have ever visited this city since they're making plans to live here and clearly know little about the area.

Actually, I don’t see these threads as frequently in the northeast. That’s because many of these cities have had protections in place guaranteeing the rights of their LGBT citizens and visitors for years (decades, in many instances). It seems a valid inquiry given Houston’s history of rejecting protections for its LGBT citizens: https://www.latimes.com/nation/natio...103-story.html.

Two out of every 3 Houston voters rejected protections in this latest vote just a few years back. In two prior referendums (1985 and 2001), voters similarly rejected protections for its LGBT citizens. Given this history, it seems fair for a transplant to wonder just who these voters are and if there are certain parts of the city where they might encounter less prejudice.

It looks strange, but "post" refers to the post, not "after LGBT". In other words, it's "Another Relocation Post" with a subtopic of "LGBT Friendly Suburb"

Maybe she meant to type “pro”- makes no sense to me either. They used to say “post racial” America after Pres Obama was elected, but we are “anything but” these days.

Perhaps it's because Houston is already more diverse and accepting than major cities in the Northeast and we already treat people fairly and equally.

You'll be fine anywhere in the general metro area. As long as you avoid the rural-ish areas close to town you'll be good, and you'd never consider them (or be recommended them in this forum).

Your budget is the bigger factor. You can definitely find good neighborhoods in that budget but not the pick of the city. What are your priorities and like to haves on the house itself? That will bring you better recommendations.

The facts don’t bear that out. Wasn’t it just a few years ago that a majority of Houston voters supported a bill to remove health insurance benefits for City of Houston employees?
Some of those “diverse” populations that you refer to don’t necessarily like gays even though they themselves may have been discriminated against.

More ethnically diverse, sure. But the rest?... completely false.

I agree. We're good at the ethnic and cultural mix (different skin colors, different religions, different cuisines, different languages, etc.) But lifestyles - especially away from traditional gender roles - tends to cross into a more uncomfortable region for many. Acceptance starts breaking down. We need to be as open and honest with ourselves as possible, for those trying to learn about the city and area.

The voters voted to not have a law protecting LGBT folks. The attempt to remove health insurance for same sex couples was a lawsuit filed by some ignorant bigots claiming their "Christian" feels were hurt because their tax dollars were used to subsidize benefits for those "evil"(that's sarcasm) same sex couples. I would bet that the bigotocracy wears mixed cloth and eats cheeseburgers, making them hypocrites of the first degree.
