I'm trying to remember where my mom took our dogs for kennel care in Houston. All I remember is that it was across the street from a field with a pumpjack and the Houston skyline off beyond. Anyone recall this place? Thanks!

I doubt there were ever pumpjacks operating in the city limits of Houston

If you mean within the rural area outside Houston city limits again—
I doubt that if the area is in a city’s limits

It is rare to find pump jacks now because they are older wells—really old—
And would have to be owned probably by a smaller independent producer since they are not the type of recovery technology usually used now

Why do you need pump jacks?

Sounds like it might have been somewhere around the Pierce Junction field. The principal part of that field is south of 610, west of 288 and east of US 90-Alt. Holmes Road crosses the northern part of the field from northeast to southwest.

The only operating ones I've seen are in Baytown.

I saw some in new Miramesa subdivision in South Cypress. This is a new field I guess.
Also I saw an older pump on Almeda Rd, somewhere between 610 and Beltway 8.

Probably to take some pictures

I also had a same intent, but was looking for more picturesque place.

In addition to the Pierce Junction field, there's an operating oilfield with plenty of pumpjacks just southeast of the intersection of FM 2234 and the Fort Bend Parkway (near all of the TV broadcast towers).

Actually, at least as far back in the 1960's there WERE a few pumpjacks within the Houston city limits - specifically in Southwest Houston. (I don't know about other areas of the city).

The pumpjacks were in large (multiacre) empty parcels of land which were not uncommon in the periphery of the city in those days.

Most if not all such large parcels were long ago paved over into housing developments and shopping centers.

There were plenty in the south. May still be some.
