If you’re totally new to Houston, I’d rent for a bit so you know definitely where you want to buy.

Off street for guests. Residents almost always have a parking garage.

I do the walk from Midtown to downtown all the time. You can also take the train into downtown or bike it.

There are condo lofts in formerly commercial buildings in the Historic District part of Downtown (Market Square and lower Main Street). It's the most happening part of Downtown. Check it out if you don't have anything against an older adaptive reuse building.

There are also condos in Montrose (mostly not new ones though), which many also regard as "happening" and walkable by Houston standards.

Midtown and Downtown are so close together you won't need a car. You can take transit from Midtown to Downtown and vice versa, plus to nightlife, etc.

So are you suggesting Downtown then?

I was surprised, but it seems City Centre has evolved to add more urbanish venues that attracts more than just us old, married-with-kids types. Lots of young, single professionals working in the Energy Corridor may find that area attractive. But, your work location in the Third Ward makes it all a moot point.

Lots of new development downtown, but I think you’ll find more things to do in Midtown. Have you looked at some of the condos around the Hyde Park to Fourth Ward area? Lots to do along Buffalo Bayou and surrounding areas. Of course look into flooding risk.
The Midtown location is at the edge of Fourth Ward and Midtown near Bagby park, but I looked a while back in that area. Some decent places, but ended up striking them off the list for a variety of reasons like astonishingly high HOA fees even compared to renovated historical buildings on Downtown on main st.,

I will have to check City Centre out .
