That is a big question! There are alot of good school districts.
On my side of town, NW houston area, there is Klein ISD, Tomball ISD, Cy-fair ISD, Magnolia ISD, some of Conroe ISD, and some of Spring ISD. In Spring, I would say Spring High school but not Westfield.

My part of town: In Houston, Spring Branch ISD. Perhaps the most complete (built out so all bonds go to programs and existing schools vs. building schools) and best districts in the Houston Metro. High Schools to aim for would be Memorial or Stratford. Junior Highs to aim for would be Spring Branch, Memorial or Spring Forest. This district is favored by those whose children have learning problems or are Gifted and Talented. Lots of money and attention goes into these issues. It's a small, compact and close knit district compared to the burbs and HISD.

Perhaps HISD, aiming for the Lamar HS, Grady or Lanier Middle School, which are fed to by Briargrove, Georgetown and River Oaks Elem. Westside High School is getting good reviews with its feeder elem. Bush. HISD will be more diverse than Spring Branch or the burb schools, but the schools I mentioned attract the high achievers.

Many districts including HISD and others are hiring teachers from the Puerto Rico insular area and other countries such as Mexico, Spain, China, and the Philippines - I think you will easily find work.

You may want to find out where you will work before figuring out where you will live; it can help to live close to your place of employment.

Spring ISD is a great school district and they pay their teachers a bit better than other areas.
Klein and Cy-Fair are also very good School districts. League City and Pearland have really great schools there as well.

Galena Park is a rough school. Be careful and make sure you do your research on each school before you sign up for one!
good luck to you and I wish you great success on your new, very important job!

Fyrelle: Are you referring to the whole district or just to the schools in the City of Galena Park?

I'm not sure if North Shore HS (9-10 and 11-12) is calmer than GP High School. Maybe it is...
