Default Katy Texas

Hello, does anyone know how often Katy or the Houston area has tornados? How big of a concern for yall. Does it stop you from sleeping at night?

This far South and close to the coast, the Tornadoes in the area just don't generate the punch that they do further North. I would say, while you have to exercise caution in severe weather that might spawn some tornadoes, you do not have to worry about them like you might up North.

Native Houstonian. Never seen one in the city. Was close to one in Conroe though and saw all the trees knocked down.

No, I don't loose sleep over them. The ones that might concern me are ones that a hurricane would spawn. But we seldom have hurricanes, so there you go.

I thought I saw a tornado once, but it turned out to be a bunch of leaves.

The only thing that can keep you awake at night are heavy thunderstorms. Even then, they aren't as violent as the ones found in Dallas, but they generally dump a lot more water on us than up there.

As Mac said, the tornados here are generally weak. I remember people freaking out last year in Galveston when they had multiple waterspouts forming. The local news was all over that one. One did some damage to a car dealership, but were otherwise really puny (as far as tornados go). F-0 or at most F-1.
