Hi, my wife and I are thinking about moving from Midtown to Tomball but I don't really know how good or bad the commute will be as I work in downtown. It's time to buy a house and we have no need to live in the city as houses are expensive and schools are not that good within the city. What are your thoughts? Thanks for looking.

Plenty of good schools in the city just maybe not in your budget.

Tomball to downtown can be a 1+ hour commute depending on how far out you are and traffic.

Coming from Tomball into Downtown is going to be at least an hour drive, and that’s on a slow traffic day.

Where in Tomball? We live in Cypress, on the border with Tomball. My husband either drives or takes the park and ride at 290/Skinner. He also leaves quite early, around 6am. I just asked him and it apparently took him 33 minutes to get to Allen Center this morning...he drove.

Thanks, we are considering a property near 249 and 99. It would be about 20 min drive to the park and ride if I were to go Downtown that route. Every input is much appreciated.

Hopefully someone comes along with the commute from 249/99 or you could check what google maps shows during commute times.
It took my husband an hour and 20 minutes today because he left after 7am.

My wife works in the medical center (south campus) and we are considering buying a home in Cypress (House is very close to Barker Cypress exit and 290).
To try and test what her commute time would be, we stayed overnight in a hotel on two separate nights and she drove the next day morning and left early. Provided she leaves around 6:30 or 6:40, she got to the medical center south in about 35-40 minutes.

Really will depend on when you have to be at work.
I know people that live in Conroe and commute to Katy, guy leaves at 5:30AM and heads before the rush.
But his job is flexible, so that plays a big role.

You have a few options 99 to 45 South or jump to Hardy or 249 to BW8 then 45 south or Hardy
Biggest issue aside from traffic will be the toll impact on your wallet. 45 is free but is your highest risk.
249 to BW8S, then 290, 610, i10. JESUS!
249 to BW8S, i10
Park and Ride is another alternative.

In a best-case scenario, it is a 31-mile commute that should put you at about 35-40 minutes under normal conditions. Factor in traffic and you are going to be hovering around 1hr easily.

If you are dead set on 249/99, then just make sure you are ready or find creative ways to minimize the impact. Park and Ride, carpooling, or simply adjusting your schedule.

I live in Spring (45/Cypresswod) and work in Downtown. If I want to take 45, I need to be merging no lather than 6:15AM to beat the idiots. If I don't get out by 6:20 I just jump on Hardy and only have to deal with the idiots on the 59 merge since Hardy St has construction.
