Looking at purchasing a home in the Clear Lake Area and Nassau Bay. Does anyone know if these areas... especially the Nassau Bay neighborhood are in what's considered a "MUD" zone. Also do those areas normally require additional insurance to cover hurricane and flooding.....is that what MUD is? We are first time home buyers and hear taxes are considerbly high in Texas and would love any advice or feedback on a few of our questions. One last question are taxes due annually, semi annually...etc.?

MUD is a municipal utility district. Often these taxes are levied on neighborhoods that are actually outside of the actual city limits in the county and goes to pay for those utilities because you aren't getting city utilities. Often you find that the city police don't patrol it but the sheriff's office does. Not all neighborhoods have them.
