Moving from Phoenix to Houston
Hi!
I started reading several months ago and saw many similar posts. They were helpful but it didn't seem like anyone came back and posted on where they actually ended up renting or purchasing. Anyway, I decided to post because I really need some help. I am moving to Houston from Phoenix in late June for a position at M. D. Anderson. I have checked some of the apartments and was disappointed and looked to private rentals as an alternative since that is what I am doing now.
Since I am in my 20s I am hoping for a place that has plenty of activities and is perhaps directed more towards singles and young professionals. Many people have told me to look in Montrose, the Museum District, etc. My max is $1000. According to some people this is too high and others say it is more than adequate. I am confused
I know several people recommended greatlandlords.com, however despite multiple e-mails and calls I never got any responses from them. I was hoping I could get recommendations in terms of realtors or other alternatives for my search. I have looked at har.com, greensheet, and craigslist. Unfortunately many locations want you to start within 30 days.
I am planning on being in town this upcoming weekend but if I am not successful what are the chances that I could find a place in early June? I am concerned because waiting until June would be only a couple of weeks before I leave Phoenix.
Thanks for reading

Since you are going to be in Houston anyway, you should just go ahead and look at places that meet your qualifications -- inside the loop and within your budget. Doesn't mean you need to sign a lease agreement that day, but if it is a condo, you should easily be able to find another similar unit when the time is right. Even if you find a house that you like, you can keep track of the specific neighborhood and pickup what is available when you are ready.

Finding a house in that area for that price might be kind of tough, but you can actually get a good apt or condo for that ammount. There are lots of new developments going up in the area that nice. There is a new alexan complex on richmond (or maybe westheimer) that isn't too far from md anderson that isn't bad. I also would recommend looking off of Holcombe like a previous poster said. There are several apt complexes that will be filled with people just like you. Young med students, nurses, residents, grad students from the med center. Most complexes in your price range will be decent, any negatives will probably be nit-picky stuff.

Check out the Marquis Bellaire apartments. It sounds like it will be right up your alley and if you are a single guy, I guarantee you will like it. A single apartment will run about $800-850/Month and will leave you with about a 15 minute drive to the TMC with traffic.

I am thinking mid town. You can catch the rail to the med center. You will be close to the night life in downtown and mid-town.
