Default Greek Churches

Does anyone know of any Greek churches in the proximity of the Woodlands? I know there's a large Greek church in downtown Houston....but that's going to be quite a hike. Hoping there's something closer.

I am Greek myself on my way to Houston. :-)

I have seen a lot (as in vacant land) on FM 2920 (I believe around the middle between 249 & I-45) that has a sign saying "Future site of St. Anthony's Greek Church". How far in the future, I don't know, but this should be close enough to the Woodlands.

If you've researched any other Greek community links in Houston I'd like to know.

Hey Tony,

Although I'm not Greek myself, my husband is. Thanks for the info above! Apparently, there's a formidable Greek population in the Houston area. There's a huge church downtown....the Anunciation church. There's also one called St. Basil the Great Greek Orthodox...but not sure where that is compared to The Woodlands.

The Archdiocese has a very good parish directory:

The OCA (Orthodox Church in America) and Antiochians do so as well.

Thanks Snowboots.

BTW, what's the difference between orthodox church and antiochian? We've googled greek churches in Houston and have seen some come up with that description. My husband doesn't know what that is, nor do I since I was raised Catholic.

Hello there! Sorry it took so long..

We are the same Church. The Antiochians are mostly the Arabs (as far as ethnic routes and traditions) but we are in full communion.
Same goes for the Russian Orthodox Church, the Albanian, the Serbian and a few others.
There's also the OCA which sprung from the Russians but now is more missionary minded - many many American converts.
We are different "jurisdictions" but the same Church.
Hope this helps a little!

Default St Cyril of Jerusalem Orthodox Church

St Cyril of Jerusalem Orthodox Church, a parish in the Orthodox Church in America, has been located in The Woodlands since 2005. Our website is at http://www.stcyril.us. The OCA is in full communion with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese. All our services are in English. A service schedule is available at the website.

We invite everyone to come visit!

As a fellow Greek, I can tell you that there is a large Greek community in Houston, for sure!

Living in The Woodlands does make Annunciation quite a hike for you, but if you're looking to do something in October, come on down to the annual Greek Festival - they put it on and it's fabulous! My family's very involved in it and we absolutely love going every year.

ARRRRGH! I cannot get the link to work! Try greekfestival.org - maybe that'll be easier for me to post!
