Default Hi! Cy-Fair Area

Hi ya'all

We are looking to relocate to Houston sometime next year.

It will be strange being back in the USA after 12 years being gone.

My sister lives in the Copperfield area and we would like to be in the same area.

We were there a few weeks ago and saw some really nice houses in Riata Ranch. The whole area around there seems very good.

Anyone living there and are they happy with that part of Houston?

It's been one of the fastest growing parts of the country for the past 10-15 years. Very large area with a lot of neighborhood choices on either side of Hwy 290.

The Cy-Fair area takes into account a large region of Northwest Harris County including: Jersey Village, Champions, Cypress, Copperfield, part of Katy, and the West Little York/Lakes of Eldridge areas. Over 700,000 people live in Cy-Fair (approximately the same population as the City of Austin).

Around the Barker-Cypress area, check out (Stone Gate/Copper Lakes/Towne Lake). I would also recommend checking out the neighborhoods in North Cypress (Longwood/Coles Crossing area), Fry Rd. Corridor (Bridgelands/Blackhorse area) and the Fairfield area (Lakes of Rosehill/Lakes of Fairhaven) etc.

Here are some pics from the Cypress area: Flickr: longwood_cypress' Photostream

We lived in the vicinity, at Twin Lakes next to Lakes on Eldridge and Lakes on Eldridge North.

We went there as part of a self fullfilling prophecy. We had a child who needed to stay in the British education system and The British School of Houston runs buses from this area.

So Brits, especially those working in Energy Corridor, were catered for.

It is further out for a commute to downtown, as I'm sure you realise.

We are not worried about school for any children as ours will all be out (we hope) by the time we move. My eldest daughter has just finished a hair dressing course at the IOM College (voted student of the year).

My stepson will be heading off to Uni in Sept. and the youngest girl will be starting hair dressing here..but she is very self dependant and likes the idea of being on her own.

They all know if they need to come and live with us it won't be a problem. All 3 of my kids are USC.

I want to get a house that is in a area that is green. I know this probably doesn't make sense but I want mature trees and some place that doesn't look like the contractors has just gone in and bulldozed everything gone.

We went and looked at houses in Copper Lakes..OMG they were beautiful but I am not going to spend all the money we are bringing on a house.

I want to be able to buy our house and not have a mortage payment.

Thanks for the info!!!!

Hello, We live in Riata Ranch. We've lived there for 4.5 years and it has been great. You can get a lot of house for your money. There are two gated sections where you'll have to pay a bit more, but we've felt it's worth it; it adds privacy, the lamp posts are not the typical city street poles, and the lots are huge (70' wide, most at about 10000sq ft). We're actually selling ours now because we'd like a larger home for our growing family. But I can say that Riata has been very nice. They have lots of trails to walk/bike on, and the play area is great: there is a tricycle track, grilling area, tennis court, Olympic size swimming pool, and huge green areas to fly kites, play baseball/softball, etc.
Even in the two gated sections, you can get a large house compared to some nearby neighborhoods (Copper Lakes, Coles, Bridgeland, Cypress Creek Lakes, to name a few); now those neighborhoods may have their reasons for being higher priced, but Riata is simply a great deal. You can get right now, say, a ~2500sqft house with tons of upgrades (granite & SST in kitchen, hardwoods, detached garage) for under 215k. Try doing that in many of the nearby neighborhoods and see if you can get one on a 70' wide lot. Lastly, it is zoned to Cy-Woods HS (Copperfield & Copper Lakes are zoned to Langham which isn't great but will hopefully improve); Cy-Woods is one of the really good ones in CFISD.

Good luck!

I must add about Riata: most of the sections have trees that have been growing for more than 10 years The pines along Riata Ranch Blvd have grown quite nicely and are quite tall. The neighborhood doesn't have the soaring trees that North Cypress has, but it's not like a lot of newer tract neighborhoods that have virtually no trees.

Thank you very much that is just the kind of info I am looking for.

I found a lovely house a few weeks ago when we were there on Little Riata Drive that is on a corner lot and it looked lovely.

I have been trolling the HAR website and have found some cracking houses. Not that they will be available when we move...Very excited and can't wait for the next year and a half to go by...lol wishing my life away

I grew up in Copperfield (southcreek) and although it wasn't totally for me (I like urban areas) it was a nice tranquil and family-friendly place to grow up .. we would play outside .. ride our bikes .. go to the park and pool .. it was so green lots of trees and HUGE yards I do miss that alot .. It's extremely safe .. The schools are excellent .. I would completely reccomend it.

There is also a very nice area over by the West Oaks mall my grandparents live there and their house was always so impressive to me .. I can't quite remember what it's called but if you are going south from Copperfield and pass West Oaks mall a few more miles(?) there is a bank and a turn-in for the subdivision..

Also I can't remember what it's called it may have been where you went but around copperfield if you keep going down Logenbough there are those homes around the big fountain/lake but those are pretty new and might not have the mature treets..
