Hello. I'm relocating to Houston for work. I'll be working in Sugarland and I'm wondering where I should live. I hear horror stories about the traffic and I also want to live in a cool neighborhood close to things to do. I'm a single female, very active and enjoy going out - not a party animal but I live music. Any ideas would be really helpful.

Gee, that's kind of tough. You sound like an Inner Loop kind of lady but Sugarland is at least 15 miles away from all of that. You could split the difference, I suppose, and live Uptown while reverse commuting 30 minutes to Sugarland. Uptown has a slew of quality apartments, townhomes, houses and condos but traffic in the immediate area can be pretty rough and it's not the most walkable area. That said, you'll be near a lot of good restaurants, top-notch shopping, and so on.

Otherwise, I would suggest Midtown, the Museum District, Upper Kirby and/or the Greenway Plaza area.

Montrose, you would be doing the "reverse commute" so it wouldn't be that bad.

I agree with Modster. Since you would be on the light side of the freeway traffic, you could probably get to Sugarland in 20 minutes or so. It might be worth it if you want to be with the young crowd. Sugarland, though parts of it are ethnically diverse, is very suburban in nature. Not exactly a partytown.
