No, all of Piney Point Village is Spring Branch ISD... There is an area in 77063, on the other side of the Bayou that calls itself Piney Point Estates, that isn't part of the Villages and that is HISD.
I don't think taxes will be a big deal to this couple.

My wife commutes every day to downtown. About 45 minutes. We live in the Champions area about 15 minutes South of the Woodlands. We get the suburban feel, less expensive than the Woodlands, yet still get to use the services and stores of the Woodlands whenever we want, with a shorter commute.

Taxes are a bit of shocker since we pay much less in Chicago. It is what it is. We would love to find something comparable in the 1.5 range because of taxes and possibly having to do private schools. If are going to do private, I am thinking Tanglewood would be closer in and just as nice. True, or is it more city like?

The BLVD section is definately more urban. The Country Club section is a little less urban, but certainly more so than The Villages.

Well, I'm not a big fan of McMansions with an all hyper-consumption lifestyle but I'm a modest man. I hope you will choose wisely even with Tanglewood Country Club.

I agree Bike4Life. My ideal home and neighborhood would be timeless, somewhat old, tasteful, lots of trees and land. I am concerned that there is no zoning so I have no idea what I will be looking at when we come Memorial Day weekend. I would like to make it easy on my husband so he does not have more than a 20 minute commute. Someone mentioned Royal Oaks but I looked at it online and I did NOT like it. It is just not my taste

Well, all top neighborhoods have been hit by new construction to some extent, but in your price range I think you're going to find more of what you want in the Villages.

If you are going to do private you could venture farther in and look at Avalon, South Hampton and part of River Oaks. Some places have excellent public, but it's too hard to weed out here. The lots will be smaller, the new construction more stuccoitaliannouveaufabulous.

Happy looking!
