Default My Mum and I are thinking of moving to Houston

I have only been to houston once in february and I am here for the second time now. Me and my mum are thinking of moving here to live with my sister because my mum is recently bereaved. however, this time houston seems much worse than last time i was here. im staying in meyerland, and it seems to be really smoggy, humid, and smelly because of the open storm sewer near her apartment. can anyone give me a good sales pitch of houston to tell me the good things it has to offer instead of the bad i am seeing?

Houston is a big city and it has good parts and bad as well. There are people who will be inner loop people forever and taut it to be the only route to go. My suggestion to you is to live close to where you will be working at and to look into the best areas to live that are close by. My brother lives off of Cypress in the Cy Fair district and loves it. My parents are down the way in Waller. There are some nice neighborhoods that are inner loop too, you just have to look. I live in the Dallas area and love it, it works for us. I grew up in Houston area but prefer Dallas. I am sure if I had to move to Houston I would find a nice area, just personally I hate running into people I knew from High School... ummm the embarrassing years LOL. It seems like no one moved away from there and saw the world with the exception of a few.

Magnolia, Conroe, The Woodlands, Kingwood, Porter, Friendswood, Clear lake, Cypress area over off of highway 6 and some parts of Sugar land are good.

I haven't been to Tanglewood in a good 20 years, I don't know if that is still impressive or the Memorial area. Those were primo places when I was a teen.

I think River Oaks too is supposed to be sumptous or at least it was. I beleive that Terms of Endearment was filmed there. I am not sure but I believe that was the neighborhood.

Meyerland is such a "tiny" area of Houston and is not a good representation of the city as a whole. You should venture out more... Check out uptown (Galleria) area, Cypress, Pearland (newer part), Clear Lake, Sugar Land, Memorial, The Woodlands, and Katy. Those areas are really nice with new home developments and nice shopping areas. Even the downtown and Medical Center area is nice. Please pm me if you need more info.

oh yes! I second Pearland- the new Silverlake Pearland side. It is nice. There is also, Friendswood or North of Houston in Kingwood. Those are nice areas. And affordable too. But it is all depending on where you work.
