We will be relocating to Houston for at least the next couple of years for my hubby's job. There is so much infomation out there I am overwhelmed at how to look at where to live!!! My kids are 3.5, 3.5 and 9 months, but I like to buy a house in a good high school district because that generally fits the next buyer's bill.

Since we are moving from expensive Chicago, we are so excited to see the beautiful houses you can get in Houston for a decent price (comparitively speaking). It seems like we can get a nice 4 BR house for around $500K? What are the nice areas with young families in this price range?

My husband's job is in the Stafford area, so as long as he has a short commute (unlike the 1.5 hour commute each way now). We are so excited to be moving to Houston.

If the job is in Stafford, you need to look for homes in west Houston, Sugar Land or Missouri City. The next question would be do you want a new neighborhood or an established older neighborhood? You can get a nice 4 bedroom home in Sugar Land for 250k to 400k, depending on the area. Or you could go into Houston (areas like Memorial or Bellaire which are established areas close to all the big city amenities) for more, and your husband would be going the opposite of all the other traffic.

Hello,
I'm also moving to Houston from Chicago. You should definitely look into Sugar Land, one of the nicest suburbs in Houston. We're building a home at Telfair in Sugar Land, where $450-500K will buy you a very nice (and new) 4 or 5 bed house. And it's only 10-15 min. from Stafford.
