When ALL of this is put together, we can comfortably reach the verdict that Houston is between 4th and 6th place in terms of total ethnic diversity in the US. NYC, DC, and Los Angeles are the unquestionable top 3. Miami is a wild card because all of its diversity comes from one region, but there is a lot of it. I think the Bay Area is comfortably number 4. Houston is, in my opinion, number 5 and Chicago or Miami at 6. Again the only real wildcard is Miami. If we discount the concentration of all its diversity coming from one place, Miami would replace LA as the 3rd most diverse metro area in the US. However, I dont think we can which knocks it back a few spots. Based on the data, here is my conclusion of the top 10 most ethnically diverse metro areas in order:

NYC
DC
LA
Bay Area
Houston
Miami
Chicago
Boston
DFW
Seattle/Sacramento

Now if we include racial diversity as part of this analysis, Boston and Seattle dont come close to the top 10. However both cities are very ethnically diverse so for this alone I think they belong.

Nah. Dallas is more diverse than Miami. They lack too much from the worlds largest continent. Just my opinion though.

Yes, and if cities/UA/metro have smaller ones with higher counts of immigrant clusters than even Houston. There is the % breakdowns too.

Does large numbers in a good size/large city region. Trump a city with 2 more Nationallities listed. Yet lack large totals for their size?

WHAT ALL THESE STATS PROVE??? Is does not matter what region of the Nation. Key cities WILL HAVE DIVERSE POCKETS OF IMMIGRANTS.

Some have less variety with much higher %'s of their city.

* SO IS THE BOAST IF A CITY HAS 2 MORE WE CAN FIND LISTED NATIONALITIES? IT HAS MORE DIVERSITY??

Great Idea for a stats thread on City/metro/UA diversity by immigrants. ( WHAT ABOUT LANGUAGES SPOKEN?) Just probably better in a National forum?
Seems this thread on Houston in the Houston forum and gone National on one aspect under World-Class.

Thought I would I would help with - [u]languages spoken by city region metro UA. Just Major city's matter too. They are most likely to have the classic - Koreatown's or Little India's etc. Suburbs can more likely have the center of the more Ethnic Suburb with their Religious Centers but also having the Mall/Strip Mall as the Center for most else. It is what it is. Suburban America has no regional boundaries of similarities. They sprawl similarly no matter having large Asian population of Indians or Chinese.

Still links and sights with some ACTUAL Languages spoken are not a dime a dozen. Sure one can use the US Census as other links do to CRUSH the #'s. Like I said. One link I found had these cities separately with LANGUAGES SPOKEN. Great Start perhaps?

Some cities like Miami, Atlanta, St Louis, Minneapolis, Baltimore or Oakland for examples. They did not have a portion called - LANGUAGE DEMOGRAPHICS despite the same sight in a separate city link. Some cities were not done by this sight as a Ft Worth. We all realize some cities have small city limits and smaller %'s of their metro/UA. Still they matter.

Diversity 100% makes a city more world class. Especially when there’s a good enclave scene.

It seems like you guys are confusing elements with deciding points. In the end, most of these are opinions and there aren’t any deciding points. Rather elements that may or may not overall make a city world class. LA has a pretty weak public transit system but most would consider it world class. Tokyo has poor international diversity but most people would consider it world class as well. Boston has one of (if not the best) university scenes in the world. Many people consider Boston world class many don’t. Las Vegas has one of the best tourist scenes in the world. Many wouldn’t consider Vegas world class.

I could go on. I find the “oh but Tokyo” argument weak. What makes you think Tokyo is perfect? Tokyo isn’t seen world class because of its diversity but rather everything Tokyo has to offer. Where Houston is world class in includes shopping, diversity, economy, arguably dining and some others. Where Houston doesn’t rank world class is infrastructure, tourism scene. If that is or isn’t enough is for you to decide on your own. You can’t be proved wrong or right.

How many people have you met who specifically visited Houston just to see the city - not for business, visit family / friends, go to a show, etc? It rarely happens. Houston is a great city to live in but lets not delude ourselves.

What did you mean by enclave scene? Is it a measure of how touristy the enclaves are? Or how easy it is to spend an afternoon walking around an enclave and find interesting stuff to see? How does Houston measure up?

If the numbers do support that Houston has world class diversity, then is there a way to assess the quality of that diversity?
