Default Katy Rosenberg, Richmond Sugarland Why so Few Single Level Homes

I am coming to the area next week and wanting to purchase a single level home. I have been searching on HAR.com from Katy to Sugarland in the price range of 175-230 and very very few single level homes are popping up. I am searching Katy, Rosenberg, Richmond and Sugar Land Are there other areas I should be checking?

What about Fulshear. Is that a decent area?

You realize Fulshear is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, right? 70 miles round-trip from there to downtown.

Fulshear somewhat recently made the news in a case that proves that living out in the middle of nowhere and being in a gated community does not completely protect you from crime.

But really, I don't think this sort of thing is the norm out there. Just saying.

I just searched Katy, Richmond and Sugar Land in that price range and got over 100 hits for single-level homes...

A lot of new construction seems to favor multi-levels, and I suspect in large part this is because of the small lot sizes many homes seem to have. They can't spread out, so they build up. You may need to look at some older construction to be sure to get a single-story.

Everyone seems to want 3000 s.f or larger homes. Kind of hard to fit that much single story house on the average size lot over here. Plus, a single story house costs more per sf to build, and I would guess there are a lot of people trying to get as much sf for their $$ as they can. If you build new, then it will be a whole lot easier to get the house you want.
