Corpus is better than Galveston (appearance-wise) but in no means is the sand white or the water blue. It is a lighter tan colored sand that is lightly packed (vs. Galveston's brown mud-packed) and the water is clearer but I've never seen it blue unless you take a boat pretty far off shore.

Dude - come on - you could probably walk out your front door and find drugs within your own neighborhood. Yeah, Galveston has a lot of bad areas that are easy to find if that is what you are looking for. But, you can make a rational choice to avoid those areas and go to the tourist areas only. I'm really curious - are you happy living in Houston? Reason I ask is that you often find more negatives than positives - sometimes you've got to find the good in your surrounding or pretty soon it all looks bad - so I was wondering if maybe you'd really rather be somewhere else and are just sort of stuck here for employment, family, etc. I grew up here and Houston has certainly developed its negative changes in just the way it is over the years and if I only saw that, I'd be really unhappy and I do get unhappy with the negative changes -- however the city has a lot of positives too -- it's kind of seeing the things you enjoy and tuning out the things you don't.

hey, i appreciate you taking the time for that post but with this tip I would like you to try a different way of understanding. I DO NOT HATE HOUSTON. I am not reacting to Houston's posts. Not that I hate any of you houston promoters, I am just being real especially for people who never been to houston. You will not read me knocking down the greater points of houston like the popular suburbs, unlike the more popular inside-the-loop promoters in here. so don't think people hate houston if they share their views or disagrees with other posts. I've been to galveston ya know
I do not know houston like you do, I just call it how i see it. no rose colored glasses here. You should also consider the obvious difference between opinions from men and women. men do not have to 'white lie' to be supportive.
I like houston and for the nth time, we are happy in Alief-Houston, TX. It's OK to bash this place because you have many choices all over houston, right? but not OK to comment negatively about Galveston because its your only coastline. Get it? hmm now i wonder, is Galveston better that Alief? probably is for dreamy sunset watchers are farsighted

The water in galveston is not like some in florida;it is more like datona beach really. But I agree Galveston is a very interesting city with a very interesting history. You might tell them they can also go to Padre Island and it is one of the most undisturbed beachs in the US with 100+miles of untouched national sea shore.

Actually I'm one of the first to tell people coming to Galveston not to expect blue water and white sand instead a mud-colored deeply packed sand with brown water. It's not a beach I enjoy but Galveston is what it is -- yes it has a lot of bad areas and a lot of historical interesting areas. I advise people to not go on the beach at night nor to wander off of Seawall or the Strand area. Despite that - you can find the good. I met a restauranteur in Galveston who has lived in several cities around the country and found it surprising when he told me that he'd never live anywhere else but Galveston. He likes the mix of just about anything goes there .... I thought it would take a native Galvestonian to say that but he said that Galveston is like no other and he appreciates it for that. He also did not have any school-aged children. The schools .......... not so much.

'Alief ... now THAT's Happ-en-in ...????
I am far from a G-town supporter, but, honestly (as someone who was born, raised (Houston) and educated (Austin, et al) I would take Galveston ANY DAY over the myriad of boring, homogenous, boring, commercial, boring, boring, boring, BOR-ING... subdivisions ... soul-less towns in Texas ANY DAY.
The prettiest beach in the U.S. ... Texas even ... it is surely NOT. But a beach is a beach. Swimming, surfing, fishing, crabbing, sunbathing, sand-caslet-building, kite-flying ... Wait. I would rather spend a day in ... ALIEF??????

I am sure it's not the prettiest beach. But if you want to live by a beach and not pay CA or FL prices for a home and be around really friendly people, then I think it's an option.Thats why we are considering it.
