icon7, it sounds like you didn't know about these rules before. Here's the specific Fort Bend ISD language from their Web site if you want to go fight the good fight:
"To be eligible for the Prekindergarten program, children must be four-years- old by September 1, 2007. They can qualify for the program by meeting one of the following criteria: educationally disadvantaged, homeless, unable to speak or comprehend the English language. or parent is on active military duty, has been injured or killed while on military duty. Parents of children who wish to qualify for educationally disadvantaged will be required to complete an income verification form. Children who may qualify based on limited English-proficiency must take a language assessment."
We pay for private pre-K for our two children. It is expensive.

But what WE DONT want in Houston is to turn it into a Asylum that encourages people to come here illegally because tax payers work hard for them to have free handouts. I honestly did not know that Pre-School was off limits for the people who pay the taxes that build the buildings and pay the teachers salaries....then again, the elementary in Telfair should not have any one that qualifies as economically disadvantaged, so it may not even have a Pre-K program.

Go fight for that, not against children who need the extra help.

I did not know this. I don't have children yet, but hope to soon. But this is good to know. Probably will have to look at some of the excellent local Private schools.
