Default Another walk in the Montrose. (photos)

This is going to be pretty spontaneous, just starting from one point and going to another, making it up as I go along. Y'all have seen Westheimer so I'm gonna avoid that. It's about 4pm on Monday afternoon....

It's not too hot to ride a bike, ain't that right B4L?

A mix of old and new.

Very new, indeed.

Four-plex for rent.

OK, so there might be a little Westheimer because I wanna cross to the other side. We'll go back south later...this swerve was inspired by a detour into Hollywood Food & Cigar for a bottle of water. I was getting thirsty.

This was definitely not the only Obama sign I saw.

We really do have sidewalks here.

Sometimes they even double as billboards.

This tree's roots have caused this sidewalk to become a bit undone. Remember that when you're walking around here at night drunk. This is on Windsor a couple blocks north of Westheimer.

Does He or does He not?

Abandoned or not abandoned? What do you think?

Sometimes my camera's mistakes still look cool.

There are palm trees in Houston.

Approaching the University of St. Thomas.

I started being menaced by vicious animals during this walk...very scary part of town, this is.

He closes in for the kill....

I am convinced this squirrel is possessed by Satan.

I hope not, because this is a Catholic university.

This one mooned the camera.

This looked almost good enough to drink. It's close to 5 at this point, and it's hot. It really wasn't all that humid though.

This was in the street median. I almost stepped on them before looking down.

Filling the tank on this baby is as expensive as a night out at the Nelore Churascurria Steakhouse.

Did you know that 59 used to go over Montrose Boulevard, not under it?

But one thing stays the same - traffic sucks.

The people on northbound 59 (although this is really looking eastward) might as well have been walking. It would have been cheaper.

I've got an Ashby high rise in my pants.

By the way, this is a few blocks away from Bissonnet and wouldn't seem to be affected by the project so much.

They're not totally against building new stuff over there, though.

OK, so sidewalks aren't everywhere. But this road is wide enough...

...and cars usually come through here slow enough, so walking around is safe.

More vicious animals threatening my well-being.

On the Graustark bridge over 59. Guess what? Northbound is still a parking lot. Southbound (toward Sugar Land) is flowing though.

After about two hours I'm ready to take a break and cool off inside somewhere. To paraphrase Porky Pig, that would be all, folks.

Cool pictures.

Montrose is definitely a more vibrant and colorful place than most of Houston. I love it!

The guy with the signs looks like one of the protesters/activists who set up shop on the bridges around that time.

Nice residential shots. You walked a good clip there. I'm impressed! Where did you go inside to cool off?

jfre81,
As a possible newcomer, THANK YOU! It really helps to put some photos with the neighborhoods y'all describe.

If I may pick a nit... The last few pictures, after he crossed the bridge, are of Museum District (mostly) residential areas on the other side of 59 from Montrose, comprised of several smaller neighborhoods that all flow into one another, like Boulevard Oaks and Broad Acres.

*bow* But I think the Westheimer/DT tour was longer. Y'all only saw images from some of that. It got too dark on me, but I didn't stop exploring. I'm cool like that.

An undisclosed location in the 1400 block of Westheimer.

Thanks. Any tips on how to capture the vibrance, Wizzy?

Great pix! My son lives on W. Clay just off Montrose and rides his bike EVERYWHERE, especially since gas prices went through the roof. Says it's a great neighborhood for walking in the evenings too.
