It's changed now from what it was earlier today on the PowerToChoose site.... earlier today the rates were actually lower. Ambit's gone up around 2 cents!

Just got my bill for last month from Entergy, $185 for a 3000 sq ft house. 77 during the day and 71 when we sleep. We used 1536 KwH.

The PowerToChoose site is good for the initial comparison but before making a final decision you need to check with the provider's actual website for the rates. The P2C site lags in being updated.

It's this kind of rapidly changing environment that makes a variable rate so risky right now. Maybe we are at the top of the spike right now... but maybe we are halfway into it as well.

Don't believe the fee will be lowered in the winter. The price of the natural gas is increasing since Last year. I am sure the winter time, the fee will be around 15 or 16 cent. Just like the gas price, the price of electricity will never come back to 10-13 cent anymore. At The PowerToChoose site, you cannot find a provider that can have 24 or 36 months contract anymore. Everyone will expect the price is higher few years later. believe me!!!

I have Ambit variable rate currently at 14 cents. That'll probably get bumped up as we get into the peak of summer. My last bill was $70 for 464 Kw at 850 sqft. I'm amazed at how much electricity people use. I usually turn my air off while at work and a lot of times I only use the ceiling fans when I'm home if it's not too humid. The humidity so far hasn't been that terrible to me. The worst happens while I'm away at work. I notice people here tend to be more addicted to the AC (both car and home) then other places.
