Smile Schools in South West or West Houston

We are moving to Houston this summer and have no idea where to begin looking for schools. We need to move to the South West/ West or South part of Houston and most of the info I've found on the forum has been all about schools in the North! Are the schools in the south bad?

We're looking at the Bellaire, Sugar Land, Missouri City, Hunters Creek Village area, but are flexible. Have three boys, two will be in elementary and one in middle school. All three have so far been in the gifted and talented program in our current school district so that is really important to us as of course are safety issues.

Can someone help us or give us ideas? This is very overwhelming making this decision because we're moving from New York. We're willing to commute a certain distance but not an hour outside the city. Opinions and thoughts would be so much appreciated!

Thanks for all your input!

Shosh

We'll out of all the areas you listed I'd chose Hunter's Creek or any of the villages. It's in town, it's zoned to Hunters Creek Elem. and Memorial High School. You can't get much better than Spring Branch ISD in the Metro area ( on the south side of I-10). All the Memorial neighborhoods are more wooded and the lots much bigger than what you'll find an hour out.

If the housing prices are too steep in Hunter's Creek, you can follow Memorial DR. all the way west to Dairy Ashford. All those homes are zoned to Spring Branch ISD and the neighborhoods all have excellent reputations. Stratford is the western Memorial High School and it's excellent as well.

Many of the elementary schools in Fort Bend ISD are excellent. You can read parent reviews and other stats at GreatSchools.net

I'm familiar with Walker Station Elementary because that is where my son is going this Fall...be sure to read about that one. One community zoned to Walker Station is New Territory east of 99.

If all your children are already in good GT programs...then I would recommend the Commonwealth, Avalon, Brazos Landing, and Crescent Lakes Area of Sugar Land. The schools have excellent GT programs.
very competitive
it will challenge them.

But again it depends where you will be working and how much you want to spend.
