Default buying shrimp in Galveston

We're spending next week in Galveston, staying on the Bolivar Peninsula (Crystal Beach). One of the things I'm looking forward to is buying and cooking gulf shrimp. I grew up in Houston and shrimp was plentiful (people sold it by the road) but it's a little more expensive here in Austin. Where is the best place to find shrimp in Galveston? What can I expect to pay? Thanks, Chris in Austin

We usually buy it from Katie's Seafood at Pier 19 on Harborside Drive ... it's about $8/lb. Don't necessarily just buy what you see on ice -- specify that you want "fresh" and not frozen/thawed. Sometimes the stuff they have out, sitting on ice, has been frozen. But, sometimes, that's all you will be able to get b/c of bad weather, for example, that prevents the boats from going out. It tastes fine and will work ... but fresh is best Another place to check is Galveston Shrimp Co. (which I think has a new name now). It is on Harborside Drive right after you exit the Causeway, after the RR tracks, on the left. They pack for travel too.
