I was out in Houston last summer. Forgive me, I only know the zip code and not the actual name of the neighborhood. My in-law's family lives in the area and took us home browsing. We found some nice looking homes BUT we know nothing about the neighborhood. All I saw as the Willowbrook Mall and several new home communities in the area. I was pretty impressed with what I saw, including several family friendly communities, dirt cheap by California standards. We ended up not able to move last year but we're looking to move now and it is absolutely essential that the area is family friendly, low crime, with good schools. Would we get that in that area?

77070 is a nice area zoned to Klein schools, you should also check 77379, these are my areas so if you come up with a neame of a neighborhood, I would be happy to help. I actually lived in Memorial chase, 77070, and now live in Champiojn springs, 77379, they are next door and close to The Vintage.

I also live in 77070, Lakewood Forest section 2 (not all sections are in 77070) and we are zoned to Tomball ISD. I love the area. I'm partial to the older homes with larger lots and mature trees. The Champions area has some beautiful homes. Hopefully The Vintage shopping center will be filling in soon with restaurants and shops. The new HEB is awesome. Our local YMCA is family oriented, very nice and extremely popular. Lots of activities, classes and team sports for the children with a new Family Center under construction and opening soon. It also has 2 pools, a lap pool inside and a large activity pool outside with a beach, play area and water slide. Meyer park is also in the area. It's very large with running trails, multiple playgrounds, lots of soccer fields and a duck pond. Crime is not really an issue. Klein ISD is highly rated. They just passed a big bond to build a bunch of new schools including a 1 or 2 new high schools. Tomball ISD is also building a new high school, opening Fall of 2011 which would be attended by our area.

77070 is also zoned to Cy-Fair schools.

Either way, you'll get good schools. There are a lot of older neighborhoods (late 70's-early 80's) as well as newer communities to choose from. The three things you asked about - family friendly, low crime, good schools - would definitely be found in 77070.

I used to live off of Jones Road in 77070, in the Cypress school zones. Cy-Creek was a fine school but that has been a few years ago. I loved the area - close to plenty of commercial entities, sports fields, and the pine forests what is left of them. Near Willowbrook Mall area.

I lived off of mills lane before I enlisted in the military, back around 2004-05. After Katrina the area got really ghetto. I hear from some co workers now that it still has not gone back to how it was pre Katrina.

The zip closest to Willowbrook Mall is 77069. 77070 is north of the mall, and straddles both sides of FM 249, near Louetta.

77069 would be Champions, however those are mature developments. Prestonwood would be 77070, and the closest to the mall, but it's older.

South of Willowbrook would be 77066. There are a couple of newer communities close to Cutten Road and Bammel North Houston.
