You do get used to it after a while. I grew up in Houston and didn't really notice it except for those few special days in August. Of course, you get used to the lack of humidity too. I've been in Fort Worth for 3 years now and I still really appreciate 98 degrees but being fine in the shade. I remember when I first left Houston for college in Nashville and somebody complained about how humid it was. My response...... I don't trust air I can't feel.

Get out in it more, resist the urge to sit in AC all day and you'll get used to it. Apparently your kids can handle it.
Actually, she said that her child comes inside with a very red face, so it isn't clear if her child can handle it. If you are talking to me, I wasn't the one venting. I was, however, the one asking for a heat index rating so I can understand better what is coming. EasilyAmused keeps insisting we haven't seen anything yet, so I'm trying to quantify what that means.

I like the people in Phoenix who think they have it better when it's 110 degrees in the shade.

When I read/listen to them I think of two dehydrated cowboys in the middle of the desert, no water or civilization anywhere, lying in the sand, buzzards nipping at their skin while one turns to the other and says "but it's a dry heat!" with his dying breath.

I think it should be a surprise!!

Not uncommon in late July-August to have stretches of right around 100 degrees and 100% humdity. Heat Indexs easily in the 115 range.

However, June of 2005 was "Gawd-damn" Hot a little earlier than most.

Sunburn?

And no, I might not have been addressing anyone in particular, come to think of it...sort of like how a rant about the weather is addressed to no one in particular and that a response could be the same toward anyone who makes a similar comment. Summer sucks here, and everyone knows it.

This summer so far is hotter and drier than the previous two. Usually June is a very rainy month and not that hot. I'm afraid we are going to be on mandatory watering soon here in Katy if we dont get some rain soon. The rains of the last few days have passed this part of town by.

I try to run my errands in the mornings to avoid being out in the heat, and count the days till Halloween, when the heat usually breaks! As for mosquitoes, I only seem to get bit in the late afternoons/dusk so I try to avoid going outside then.

Did y'all get any of this that has moved through the last couple days?

And me....well, I've been going walking during the hottest part of the day, taking pictures. When I need to cool off, there's someplace I can go. Just don't overextend yourself, and that goes for kids too.

Overall....the weather since the start of spring has been splendid by Texas Gulf Coast standards. This has been our first legitimately hot week of the year, and that often comes by the end of May. That said, maybe late September and October could be pleasant. Maybe.

It's thundering out here now but we probably wont get a drop. When we lived in Sugarland it seems they got alot of rain compared to other areas. Oh well, will just run the sprinkler till the mandatory watering sets in . I heard Brazoria county is starting to institute this next week.

It is pouring rain in Sugar Land right now. Lots of thunder and lightning, too.

Do you ever meander through Sugar Land? I said I would post pictures of Sugar Land but I'm no photographer and I haven't taken any yet. I'm not sure my inexpensive digital camera will do a very good job.
