Katy area
As I was researching, I was wondering if Katy is a nice area for a single person which is away from the city & laid back?

A place like that doesn't really exist here, and the commute out of Katy is about as removed from "laid back" as you can get.
Don't do Katy unless you're working there.

I haven't gotten to that part yet...just wondering. Liked the townhomes & other starter homes around that area.

I'll likley be moving to Katy no matter which side of town I work on, mostly due to the fact that my wife and I love the area and it seems to be one of least high crime areas in the area.

I never found the suburbs laid back. The getting to them, the required socialization of them, the busibodiness, and the competitiveness of them...etc.
The city or waaaaaay out in the Hill country is much more relaxed and private.
Eastern Katy may be more urban and socially comfortable than the newer parts.

It's not too far away from downtown with light traffic ( ha! ) it's about 40-45 minutes outside of downtown. The problem is the HORRIBLE construction on IH-10.

Uptown Houston is sort of like that, but it's not really "away" from anything. In fact, it's traditionally the most congested part of the city.
Katy is something more similar to Wake Forest or Clayton over there in NC. I lived near Garner for awhile...

see...that was my big thing to! That's good to hear. I am very picky abt where I live. Even with champagne taste & beer money, I want to live somewhere where I can feel pratically safe.
