Cable/Internet Services in Houston
We just relocated here from Philadelphia last week...yep, it was an insane rushed move, and now I need some advice from the folks on this forum for a good cable/internet provider for the Houston area. We are going to be over in West U. and I know alot of people subscribe to Roadrunner through Time Warner, but I have heard there are alot of problems with cable services and network outages affecting high speed internet access. I was thinking maybe Earthlink or Netzero might be a good alternative, but need the speed for my job (as well as the reliability), and I don't want to get stuck with a service that's not going to cut it in that department. I also read somewhere that if you get cable they have to install a box above each tv set and then use a universal remote for the tv. This sounds archaic to me...something we did away with years ago...I'm wondering...is a dish the way to go then? Any techie thoughts would be much appreciated!!

I know that Time Warner Cable is the cable service of much of Houston. I do not know if/when it will become Comcast.
As for internet service, Houston has many ISPs.

Yep, and more are under construction all over the city.
Check http://wachovia.via.infonow.net/locator/jsp/index.jsp to find the closest location.

We went with AT&T with Direct TV and my experience with reliability is limited, as I have only had service in Houston for about 3 months now. But for the 3 months I have had zero problems. So far so good. My internet signal is strong and always on. As for Direct TV...I don't know if I like it or not. I previously had Time Warner when I lived in California. I was not always happy with that. But some of the features I did like are not available with Direct TV, so that is disappointing. I really wish I had signed up for U Verse with AT&T. That is AT&Ts tv viewing, and movies etc. I waited too long and now I can not change for 9 months because I signed a one year contract...which I believe is standard. So be carful to do your research befor you pick.
Direct TV has a box with each tv and their own remote.
