Another huge pedestrian friendly area that is in the development plan is around the old SugarMill. Waiting to see how that turns out too.
What else are they building in the Town Squre (that is udner construction)? What are the 2 areas you are mentioning: old Sugar Mill and Lake Pointe? Are they also like mini-downtowns? What neighborhoods can walk to these 2 places?

Sugar Land seems to be a great place for us (close to hubby's work, etc) but I walk everywhere with my kids and I am hoping to do the same (at least 9 months out of the year?) If I can do it in the snow below zero, then I should be able to manage other crazy weather.

So where in SUgar Land should I live if I want to walk places??? (library, shops, supermarket, etc).

If it is impossible to walk anywhere, then where is another neighborhood in Houston/suburb close to Stafford where I can have the downtown and walk, nice schools, etc?

In any of the Master Planned Neighborhoods in Sugar Land you should be able to walk to nearby Shops and parks, etc. But the Library systems are for the whole area. Lake Pointe is sill building out. Housing is more Luxury Condos and brownstones. Look into New Territory, which is more established, New Territory has Parks, Lakes, softball fields, a large club/recreation center, Etc.

Here are links to a few:
New Territory - homes from the 1980-2003
Sugar Creek - homes from the 1971? -199x (broken link)
First Colony - homes from the 1970s to 200x (http://www.firstcolony.org/page.php?page=121 - broken link)
Telfair, One of the Newest MPC, still building out (this is where I am building)
Riverstone, Another new MPC, still building

These pictures are terrific. Thanks, RGV!

I think First Colony is the most walkable community in Sugar Land. Lake Pointe is going to be cool but the stuff around Whole Foods Market will be the only shopping on the same side of Highway 6, so going anywhere else would involve the hazard of crossing it. And Highway 6 is so busy, I wouldn't want to walk next to it because the car exhaust fumes would poison you.

The Woodlands does have a beautiful town square, but they are geographically seriously far out there. Unless you are working in The Woodlands itself, that commute looks daunting.

"Town Squares" are becoming quite popular in the 'burbs. Katy and League City both have longterm plans to develop such town squares. Katy is further along but I've not seen any dirt move on theirs despite signs advertising its eventuality being in place for about three years now.

The Woodlands Town Square is VERY successful so far. Sugarland Town Square seems to be off to a solid start, too.

Great photos to the original author as well!

I am also curious about the housing above the stores? Are those apartments or condos or office space? What are most of them?

Can anyone tell me more about New Territory community? Not to sound like a jerk or anything but I have heard from realtors and others in Sugar Land that New Territory is mostly Pakistanis, Indians, Asians and people from the middle east, is that true? I don't mind diversity but I don't want to be totally surrounded. Again not trying to offend anyone.

Those Realtors are exaggerating. For example, if you look at the demographics of Walker Station Elementary (where all the children are from New Territory), they are:

White - 48%
Asian or Pacific Islander - 40%
Hispanic - 6%
Black - 5%
Unspecified - 1%

The demographics of Brazos Bend Elementary (also where all the children are from New Territory) are:

White - 41%
Asian or Pacific Islander - 39%
Hispanic - 10%
Black - 10%
Native American - <1%

My family loves living in New Territory - it is a terrific place for families.

they're aparments/lofts. I work at one of the town center buildings. I love that area. Easy access to all the restaurants and other things.
