Those are beautiful!!! No wonder it's considered to be an upscale town to live in. It's gorgeous.

Thank you for posting pictures! I had wanted to see what the downtown looks like. (Do they call it the "downtown" in Texas? In the Chicago area we would call that a downtown). I'm just curious about what you said- what is the main difference between the WOodlands Town Center and the Sugar Land Town Center? Thanks .

Sorry, a couple of more questions. What types of shops are in the town center? From which neighborhoods can you walk to this area? (I should say which are within a mile of the area, because pushing 3 kids in a stroller limits my walking distance . Final Q: Is there a good library in Sugar Land in this downtown area? I walk to our library here at least a couple of times a week here and I am going to miss it so much !!!!

lots of upscale shops & restaurants!...hope this site helps:
Sugar Land Town Square
I Think the neighborhood are around the area, but still about 1 miles away....I would not recommend walking from a neighborhood to town square, since you have to cross busy Lexington or HWY6!!!
The Mall is just down the road, and there are more restaurants, Cheese Cake Factory, Kona Grill, and a large Barnes & Noble. The library, First Colony Branch, is about 2 miles away.

This underscores my biggest problem with the new-style suburbs. You have to drive everywhere. And when you drive you gotta park somewhere. To contrast, I much prefer the older suburban developments like Meyerland, Willowbend and the Heights (that was actually Houston's first suburb, and it too has a "downtown") where you can still get around on foot or a bike. This sort of thing is frankly too cool to have where it is, no offense to anyone out there. To me it wouldn't be out of place in Midtown Houston or even the edge of downtown - yes, this is inner Houston I'm talking about - although with that grid system the layout would probably look a little different. But that said, it's just not the same without being able to get in and out of there without driving, unless you really like living dangerously. I don't have to walk or ride a bike in the street or on the highway in the city. And yes, I fear drunk drivers and soccer moms doing their hair and chatting it up behind the wheel of a minivan before getting mugged on the street downtown or whatever. I can do absolutely nothing about a ton of steel on wheels barreling at me but I'll think nothing of jettisoning a cheap camera to have two hands free to expedite making a poor stupid bastard wish they had been more selective about who they mess with.
Sorry for ranting in your photo thread, RGV. You're free to do it in mine. Traffic, the weather, the Astros - you name it. Tit for tat. Awesome pics, no matter what, and next time I'm in the area and not in a hurry I'll check this out.
And yes, "downtown" is an understood term here.

Here're some photos of the Woodlands "Town Center" Chicagomama.
I think they did a better job up in the Woodlands. More family friendly:

Notice how similar they both look! The same development teams and company worked on both designs. I think the Woodlands one is a bit more established. Sugar Land Town square is still under construction...It seems Like it is always under construction. I think When Lake Pointe In Sugar Land builds out, that area will be very walkable. Another huge pedestrian friendly area that is in the development plan is around the old SugarMill. Waiting to see how that turns out too.

Great pics again!
