Greatwood vs. Avalon vs. Telfair
I am moving to the Sugar Land area this fall and will be looking for a home. My family and I will stay in an apartment while we search. I must have QUICK access to 59.
As I learn more about the area, I have developed a few important questions.
1) Where do parents living in Greatwood send their children AFTER Elementary school? Obviously the two elementary schools WITHIN greatwood are highly rated, however the Lamar consolidated schools used for middle and highschool are VERY POOR? (I assume this is why home values are so low relative to the neighboring communities using the more affluent FBISD). My wife and I really love Greatwood but the school system it is associated with makes us think Avalon, Lake Pointe or sweetwater will be a better long term investment.
Are there any decent private schools near Greatwood?
Kinkaid and Trent Internationale seem to be the premier schools on that side of town. Any others???
2) Are there any ELITE/HIGH LEVEL Private schools (K-12) in Richmond?

I believe that Greatwood is going to have it's own HS for residents in the community. But again, FBISD is better. I am building in Telfair, with the hope that in the future they will have a new HS or be zoned to Clements HS once the population around Clemnts ages per the projections.

It's a suburb. It comes with the territory. Definitely a good idea to have a QUICK access to Hwy 59 for a slow rush hour commute. I hope you are not another red-light runner, though.

The "Rush hour" you mention on 59 is only in one direction...
I'll be going the opposite way.

1. Your location choices seem to be kinda close to the Beltway, a little out there to waaaaaay out there.
2.Strake Jesuit and St. Agnus for private over there are a heck of a lot closer than Kinkaid

There is the honor roll school which I hear is pretty good. It is on Sweetwater BLVD. in Sugar Land. Since FBISD does not provide PK for tax payers children...many parents send their children here.

Since our side of New Territory is adjacent to Telfair, I'm hoping we'll be able to share a new high school with Telfair. Stephen F. Austin High School may have a Sugar Land address and it is only 5 miles from New Territory but it seems so far away.

Telfair is currently zoned to Kempner, which they hope to change. There is a projected site for a new high school, but there is no telling how soon it will be built (as this depends on the need) It will be between University & 90. I imagine that New Territory will be zoned to go there when it is built because it will be adjacent to N.T. Austin may seem far, but it not as far as Kempner. It also has a better reputation.
As far as the original thread: St. Laurence & Honor Roll are both good schools, but I don't believe they have high school programs. In what area do you work? There are many good private schools in Houston.
