Default Relocating help to Houston

Hello,

I have accepted a job with a railroad company in Houston, My wife and I are considering Humble because it is not in the inner city of Houston but not too far from the city. We found a nice brand new home in a new subdivision called Saddle Ridge II. My question is can anyone give us some info on the area as far as crime, commute time to the city, propert taxes, and good school systems. And also the teacher certification program there I hear is pretty awesome, if anyone can eloborate I would appreciate because we getting sort of nervous.

Thanks in advance !

Let's see...

Saddle Ridge II (seen at http://www.kimballhillhomes.com/plan...nityCode=325-1)

If I am not mistaken (I didn't see any homes actually labelled Saddle Ridge II on the HAR database, but I saw plain "Saddle Ridge" homes), the schools that Saddle Ridge is zoned to are the Aldine Independent School District schools. Aldine ISD schools are not considered to be as good as the Humble ISD schools, especially Kingwood and Atascocita schools. Aldine ISD schools' demographics are comparable to many inner city schools.

To determine the exact AISD schools that you are zoned to, see: http://www.aldine.k12.tx.us/district...by_address.cfm

The homes marked as "Saddle Ridge" on HAR.COM are zoned to:
*DeSantiago Early Childhood/Pre-Kindergarten and Head Start Center
*Magrill Elementary School
*Parker Intermediate School
*Teague Middle School School
*Nimitz High School

But please confirm your home's zoning (through the locator tool AND calling Aldine ISD).

If you wish to stay in Aldine ISD, be sure to shop around and check out the schools. Aldine ISD has some magnet and transfer programs, although the district is a tad bit small (with four comprehensive high schools, plus 9th grade campuses for each).

Also, the Houston area has private schools, if you are willing to go that route.

Here are the school profiles of the known Saddle Ridge schools:
* http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/..._school/tx/188 = Nimitz HS
* http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/...school/tx/8596 = Nimitz 9
* http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/..._school/tx/211 = Teague MS
* http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/..._school/tx/227 = Parker IS
* http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/..._school/tx/201 = Magrill ES

A teacher from Florida is on a distinguished road
Default I am also relocating

It seems that you know Houston area very well! I read one of your comments about Spring ISD. Why is not a good place to relocate? I am going to a job fair soon and need to know which are my options.

Thank you,

Soon to be a teacher from Texas

Well, the Spring ISD portion zoned to DeKaney HS is doomed to go south - A lot of low-income apartments, which are currently zoned to Westfield HS, will be rezoned to DeKaney HS.

While Westfield HS may recover somewhat from the rezoning, its reputation in the community is in a decline.

Spring HS has the danger of falling into a decline as well, if families stop moving in the area.

Read the comments about Westfield at Greatschools to see what has happened to that zone. I hear people fearing the same scenario at Spring HS down the road (it hasn't happened yet, but it may soon).

Profile of Westfield HS: http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/...school/tx/6464 (Part of the Westfield HS boundary will be rezoned to the new DeKaney HS next fall)
Profile of Spring HS: http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/...school/tx/6463

By the way, Afitz, Saddle Ridge isn't actually in the city of Humble - it just has an Humble address.

Congratulations on your new job! We just moved to the Humble area in October, but I am not familiar with the area you are looking into. I Googled it and checked out the map and I know that I have driven past that area once. I think that this area in more up and coming. I don't have much info for you. Sorry. All my best to you in your move. ~K~

The area is directly north of the Bush Intercontinental Airport grounds.

The area is in unincorporated Harris County but has Humble addresses.
