I had everything planned, was supposed to move to Houston next month, but cannot find a job. I've applied to seventeen jobs and has yet to receive a phone call. Looks like my dream of moving to Houston may be over.

I am assuming you are a teacher...Look at School websites, call principals to see if they have any openings. I saw a large billboard asking for teachers.

North Houston has been hiring teachers straight from asia. I guess you're only looking into desireable schools

You might need to move here, take substituting positions while you work on getting your Texas certificate--should take a semester to a year depending on the program you go to.

You haven't applied to enough positions and need to be more proactive (especially in a recession). In the past, I've applied to more than 17 positions a day for periods of months.

It's not like any business in the USA would ever do such a thing to be able to have their workforce under their control instead of other reasons (shortage of workers at wages offered, etc.). Additionally, I've never known any group of humans to have discriminatory hiring practices, cry foul and import workers from abroad, especially Asians.
