She had stated that these things don't happen in Houston when Houston in actually is very known for strip clubs and prostitution (which I am not saying is necessarily a bad thing).

To the original poster: Houston has some things to do. Primarily eating, shopping, drinking, & movies. The problem is, what there IS to do here will become old hat in about 6 months to a year. After you've been to the museum a few times, Galveston, "the parks", the galleria, a handful of restaurants, a ballgame or two, etc., there is a big fall-off. Once you figure the city out, what it lacks seems to become magnified. Houston is a CITY when it comes to jobs and opportunity, but is a TOWN when it comes to progressive fun & entertainment. Houston is a place to work and own your home, but you travel to other cities to have "fun."

It is interesting that there are "hot sheet" motels all over Houston, and a large amount of "message therapist" ads in the Houston Press. There does not seem to be much happening outdoors, perhaps it's because everthing is happening indoors.

This is the case for mostly everywhere.

"handful of restaurants?" "some things to do?" Epic fail trying to undercut H-town.

"Primarily eating, shopping, drinking & movies" are what the norm is in other cities too.

Cities like Seattle, San Diego, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Miami, Austin and such...they get figured out fairly quickly. I actually believe Houston's diverse spreads of commercial manifestation, in varying formats, keeps it more interesting over the long term than most other cities. As a former resident, I got tired of San Diego and Tampa Bay's tourist facades VERY QUICKLY.

"Progressive fun and entertainment?" Whatever that is...(oh wait, Houston with its top flight arts scene; you do know that Houston is the only US city hosting Spain's Prado pieces later this year...and Houston is one of the top movie theater cities having only one of three vaunted Sundance Cinemas...and Houston is THE originator of the Art Car Parade concept, Houston is one of only 5 US cities to have a Pacifica station, among other items that may not be "progressive" for you...)

Wtf is " progressive fun and entertainment"?

Please explain that to us.

You know what's fun? The largest rock climbing gym in Texas or a body weight gym...or maybe you want to feel like youre on an episode of The Bachelor or something and go zorbing. A few times I took a $35 inflatable raft down Buffalo Bayou a few miles into downtown...that was fun and the views were spectacular. Memorial Park Bike trails are great.

Progressive maybe? Eatin out in a neighborhood with Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Malaysian, Thai, Indian, Pakistani, Ethiopian, Somalian, Nicaraguan, Guatemalan, Salvadorian, Lebanese, Persian, Turkish, Israeli, and Colombian eateries. Pretty fun to go grocery shopping there, too. Or go catch a drag show at F bar...thats pretty progressive isnt it? Or is progressive to you some lame-ass Austin-inspired bar with lots of different types of beer and dudes sitting on the patio with shorts and flip flops? Those are here too...
