My family and I are taking a road trip to Houston after the 4th of July. After. What should we see in Houston? Galveston? Where is the best area to get a hotel? Don't want to end up somewhere where I can be victimized. I'm coming from Dallas. How about a suggestion on a hotel? Something like a Embassy Suites etc. Thanks!

Where you should stay depends upon your activities. If you plan to split time between Houston & Galveston then I would suggest staying in the Clear Lake area. However, if most of your time is going to be spent in greater Houston, then I might suggest that you stay in the Galleria area. Yes, Houston has Museums and every time someone asks about the must-sees everyone jumps on the museums. However, no matter how great they are, some people are not museum people. If you like them, we have some good ones, Galleria is good for shopping and people watching (but you have that in Dallas), you might try a tour of the space center or maybe a day at Space Center Houston (if you have kids), Galveston has a lot of historical things plus a small Schlitterbahn waterpark and Moody Gardens. Kemah Boardwalk - mostly restaurants and a few rides - although some new little bars of interest are popping up. What do you like to do - will be you be traveling with no children, small children, teenagers, etc? Then we might be better able to make some suggestions for you.

Hotel hint - I happen to know that you can get great deals on nice hotel rooms in Houston on Priceline. I have hooked up family from out of town at 4-star hotels downtown and in the Galleria area for $50-$70. A very helpful website for anyone traveling anywhere is BiddingForTravel.com - The informed Priceline Travel Bidding Forum. It will help you know what to expect from Priceline and guide you in the bidding process (for instance, it actually lists what hotels people are getting on PL at the different star levels and the prices of their winning bids). VERY useful info...
