Anyone form Houston area???
Found a link to this site and was hoping to get some info on Houston area but no one has posted
I am relocating to Texas within the next 3 months and am considering Spring and The Woodlands. Was just hoping to get some feedback/advice. I am planning a trip to look at homes very soon and it would be great to have a better idea what to avoid or make a point to see.
If anyone is out there, I would really appreciate some feedback

Relocating to South Texas
GiGi,
Read your message - I currently live in Magnolia, Tx on the boderline of The Woodlands, Tx. and also once lived in Spring. I would recommend that you find residence on the Northwest side of I-45 and no further South than Spring Cypress & I-45. Are you taking a job transfer, or applying for a new position in Houston?

GiGi, I live in Houston, the NW side around the 290 and FM 1960 area ( Jersey Village) it is great up here. I wouldn't live in any other area. You've got everything You need right around You. But, Houston is a nice place to live I think. Then again I did move here from the country.

GiGi,
Hi, I live inNW houston, kind of close to Spring, Tomball, area,
all of the areas that have been suggested are great, Spring & Tomball are close to Houston City, but both have a small town atmosphere, magnolia and Plantersville are farther out, but also small town areas, Plantersville hosts the ren fair, so that is a hubub of activity around that time of year.
I have lived in my area for 25 years and love it.

I'm a native of Pasadena on the southeast side of Houston. I suggest drinking lots of water. You'll do a lot of sweating, especially between april and october. I left the Houston area in '95. I couldn't handle the humidity.

Both Spring and The Woodlands are nice. You may also want to look at Cypress, Sugar Land, Humble, and Pearland. Those are great areas with lots of new homes and development. Avoid SW Houston at all costs excluding the Galleria area.....hope this helps you.

Hope you don't mind me hopping into this thread. I'm currently looking for a job and to relocate the family. Kids ages are 7, 3 and 2. Two boys and a girl. Currently, I live an hour North of Pittsburgh and want to move. I see a lot of jobs in my field in the Houston and surrounding areas.
Would this be concidered a good place to live? I noticed some of the towns mentioned above. How's the crime rate, drugs and just general life?? Also, how are the school systems?? I'll be able to take the heat!
Any advice would be appreciated.
Dan

Crime has increased somewhat in Houston....mainly on the SW side of town. DO NOT MOVE THERE. There are some great school districts here including Pearland, Sugar Land, Cypress, and Humble areas. The Woodlands is a great area also. Katy is good too....but the commute into Houston will be hell. Hope this helps.

One more question,
If I were to take a job at Deer Park, and I was willing to spend around 45 minutes in a commute, how far North, or away from the city would that take me? Assuming an 8-5 job? Would traffic be horrible going into this part of town? Also, given the proximity to the Gulf, how many evacuations has this area seen, as of late, not counting this past season?
Thanks for any help,
DanJ

Traffic going to this side of town is not bad because you're driving away from the central parts of Houston ..i.e. Downtown, Med Center, Galleria. I don't particularly care for this side of town....it's not ritzy enough for me I guess. As far as evacuations for this area of town in a potential hurricane situation ....well let's just say you will pretty much NEED to evacuate far away from this area.....
