The tallest? HA ! The current tallest one in Groom Texas is at 198' tall. The ol town folks out in Groom will just add an antenna on the top that is 3 feet tall and reclaim the title.

If this church is so wealthy to be building wastefull crap like that then perhaps they are taking much too much money from their parishioners.

So is this supposed to make all the husbands feel guilty when they're coming back from HEB on Sunday to get the wife some groceries... and they stop in for their favorite flick?

Porn is a 10 BILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY... Do people actually think the guilt of a cross is going to slow it down???

Those stores wouldn't stay open if it wasn't for backdoor parking and people sneaking in and out..

and Comcast makes the bulk of their free profit on adult movie rentals...

I know owners of those shops who can tell you stories about quite a few of our well regarded "pastors" and their indiscretions..

Ted Haggard, anyone?
-----------------

Why doesn't the church just use this money to feed homeless?
Why don't they use this money for a missionary trip to Africe or Indonesia?

Oh wait.
That wouldn't get publicity.
Shucks.

I'm just thankful it's north of the airport, so hopefully a majority of the visitors won't see it on the drive in.

I think it's funny though that it's being built in The Woodlands. The "No buildings above the treeline motto" has changed to "No buildings above the trees, unless you want to build a high rise Class A office building or some 200 foot tall crosses."

I wonder how many perspective buyers in the area will get scared off by those things?

That's a good point. I wonder what the cross section of other populations of religions is like in The Woodlands?

Just as long as our tax dollars don't go towards it.. I'm fine.

I think a lot of Christians may be tiring of hearing how they can't say this or say that (example Merry Christmas) because it may offend other religions so it is almost a way of saying this is our religion and we are proud of it too and we can display ours the way others can display theirs. Just a guess during current times...........or I could be just way off the mark.
I think thats it.
or it can be a Transformer in diguise

Eyesores got my vote. 200-foot crosses are never appropriate in my view.

What is wrong with a reminder for Christians or others that we are here on this earth but a short time. Kind of a dress rehearsal for the after life (if you are a believer) This world is in a mess that we have never seen before with child abuse; wars; scandals; starvation of people in Africa and other places; pornography; people only caring about themselves and what is good for them and forgetting everything right and good. So what is so wrong for a church to construct a reminder to all of us. Texas is the bible belt or am I wrong about that.

In Orange county CA there is a religious broadcast network that is more than glitzy and gaudy and people have made jokes about the building but you know what every time I drive past that gaudy building on the 405 it does make me think about religion.

A better reminder would be to put the million dollars PER CROSS, into a large building to house homeless, or those good people who hit the skids, and a food bank and a clothing bank..along the freeway with a normal sized cross and maybe a nice motto for all those to see from the freeway.

You don't build something like the St. Louis Arch, creating a Christian Gateway to Houston.

Texas has portions of bible belt, Houston City Limits is too diverse to be considered bible belt. And who is to claim the Christianity is the only religion that represents "right and good." Or should represent the Houston Metro? Plenty of those who claim to be christian have committed your list of offenses.

Yet this church want to cram it into everyone coming up or down 45 that it's the religion of Houston.......

Sorry, but if you need a 200ft cross to "remind" you of your religion, then something is wrong there!
I agree...that $ could be used in so many ways that could actually benefit the community!
