Hello, My family and I are wanting to move to Houston. We are from Denver (Burr!). We are moving for no reason other than change, looking for a change in weather and affordable living.
My question is regarding jobs in the houston area. I am a nurse, wanting to stay in a private practice job. Are there many private practices outside the downtown area? We are looking at Sugar Land, Pearland, Katy area. Not wanting to commute if possible.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Most major suburbs have their own hospitals. I am not familiar with the Sw side but up here in Kingwood alone we have 2 large hospitals, 1 critical care center and many smaller medical centers.

The largest medical center NOT in the Houston medical center area is the NW medical center near Red Oak and 1960. There are a dozen or more large medical private practice buildings in the area as well as a few more in the general area. I think their hospital is one of the few outside of the downtown medical center with a full time cardiac emergency center as well.

There are Several branches of the big hospitals in Sugar Land, Plus several medical clinic, Urgent care, and private practices. As a Nurse, I am sure you can find lots of opportunity anywhere in the city. But make sure you get your Texas License. I don't know how all that works for nurses, but I can tell you from experience, it is a ton of paperwork to get a license to practice medicine (MD) in Texas.

This area is medical central...you likely will have no problem finding a job.

We lived in Colorado for one year before fleeing the blizzards...we joke now that humidity never piles up against our front door trapping us inside or causes our car to skid off the highway. I'll take Texas weather any day! The people here are really friendly, too...
