I should also mention we would like to send our child to a Catholic school. We like St. Anne's in Tomball. We plan to also check out Duchesne and St. John's downtown. We haven't looked at the Catholic schools in the Woodlands yet either. I'd appreciate your opinions on these schools. I know the public schools are good but I was concerned about the open format that I've heard all public schools have. I know we're all over the place with the schools but I'm hoping to find a great school within reasonable distance so that neither my husband nor my child and I will have to spend hours in traffic. We are looking for a safe neighborhood that is very family oriented with lots of kid-friendly activities. I'd appreciate your input.

i grew up not too far from the 77040 area. between longwood, woodlands, and fairfield, i would rate the woodlands the best. however, its commute would be the longest among the three.

st. john's is a wonderful school located in the upper kirby district, not quite downtown. i whole-heartedly recommend this school.

going inbound on 290 (longwood, fairfield, 77040) during rush-hour is one of the worst commutes in town. i know for a fact that driving from 77040 to st. john's during rush hour may take over an hour (normal drive time is ~30 mins). if you are unhappy with this, i would suggest looking into the memorial area (I-10 has significantly improved their traffic), or - as others suggested - a private school like st. agnes/strake jesuit, which is about a 40 min commute from 77040.

i hope this helps.
