Outlet at Fairfield
I am looking for a house at Fairfield now. But I was told by people that the new outlet there is a big concern. One guy who is selling his house told me he is very unhappy with it.
I really like the community but not sure if the outlet is a big deal or not.
Thanks in advance.

I think people who live in the homes next the outlet are upset about the traffic in/out of the immediate area. Fairfield is a rather large community, only a few homes are really affected by the Outlet Mall, and I imagine the rest of the people who live there probably like having decent shopping nearby.

I was out there recently, and I gotta say, I don't think I'd like it. I didn't think the outlet shops were that great. It's like a wind tunnel out there the way it's laid out. Reminds me of the Marq*E.
Gads, I remember Fairfield 10-15 years ago. I know a lot of residents have been waiting a long time to see some signs of civilization, but wow, I really liked it when it was "way out there" by itself. I always thought it was kinda neat.
Sprawl sucks sometimes.

One of the huge disadvantages of Fairfield (and the other communites out that way like Blackhorse and the new Bridgeland) is that the area around them does not have the infrastructure to support the huge population explosion. What that does is makes 290 and its access roads one of the major ways to get around in the area (go shopping, get groceries, go out to eat). Surface streets exist, but their just are not enough of them, or haven't been expanded enough yet.
The outlet mall has created a lot of traffic around on 290 and the feeder road right outside of Fairfield. In many other parts of the city, that wouldn't be a big deal because the freeway would only be used to go in and out of the city, but around that are of 290, 290 IS the way to get around the area.
Keeping all that in mind, Fairfield is HUGE and only a very small portion would even be near the outlet mall. Its still a Friendswood development and Friendswood takes care of their developments.

Fairfield is one of the areas we are considering. On one hand I really like the idea of having the outlet mall right there. On the other, I'm concerned about whether it will bring crime to the area. Any thoughts?

It does bring people from other parts of town into the area. I have even seen shuttle services there bring people from other parts of town. I would think it would pretty much be limited to the outlet mall, however.
