I lived just south of Raleigh for a while.

I'd kind of like to see how their downtown is coming around. But anyone who thinks our public transit sucks should totally go try it there.

I was wondering about the difference between Atlanta and Houston. Why do you like Houston better????

I am a prodigy of Houston suburbs.

It's amazing how many times some of you have moved to different cities/ states!!! I couldn't imagine. Houston (and the suburbs) have the good and the bad, but I can't imagine living anywhere else! (I guess it's my Texas pride, because I really could move to Austin..maybe Dallas, but not out of Texas!)

A lot of personal reasons, really. My wife's family is here, so that makes it a "friendlier" place to me. On top of that, I think the restaurants here are generally better.

There's also a certain pride of place that's palpable here in Texas, and I never picked up on that during my time(s) in Atlanta. South Carolina is the only other place I've lived, or know about, that even comes close in that regard.

I had no choice over the first 3 moves as those were decisions made by my parents. I went to school in San Antonio and then my jobs moved me to Buffalo and Santa Barbara. San Diego was a move because of DH's job there and then the move out to Houston area was to be around family & lower COL.

I've loved living in different cities. It has totally opened my eyes up. Growing up in NY, even though NYC which was about 15 min away (w/out traffic - ha) was a melting pot, where I grew up was pretty "isolated". Moving to San Antonio to attend college was total culture shock. But I'm glad to have learned so much (outside of academia). Part of me always felt I'd return to TX (albeit San Antonio) which is kind of funny considering how I arrived as a total New Yorker who refused to believe that I had a NY accent and then more recently, assumed I would raise my children to be little surfer dude/dudette (but w/out all the stereotypes, of course!).

I feel quite lucky to have lived in so many different places. It really opened my eyes to what all is out there. I am very much looking forward to moving to the next place. We are hoping for Colorado!

So weird. I hear about all these out-of-state plates but rarely see them. I came from Los Angeles, where I felt I couldn't afford to breathe. Houston hasn't proved to be significantly less costly, but I certainly get more for my money.

Before LA, New York City. Talk about costly, but I wouldn't trade it. Originally, I'm from Ohio.

New York.

I felt real self-conscious of my NY plates when I first moved here and hadn't changed them over yet.

Then I cried as they handed me my Texas plates at the DMV.

Whenever I see NY plates here, I get soooo excited and I think about asking them for a ride back.

Sigh!
