Tell me about League City, Texas
I have been wanting to move to that area of Texas, while still not living in Houston proper. Galveston has been on my list of choices for some time. But I am not sure we can afford or find a home for rent there. League City is very charming from what I can tell online, and it has a feature I am very fond of.. a Light House. So if any of you here can tell me more about the area, jobs, rentals that accept dogs, please let me know. And Thank you in advance for all your info and help.

The area is part of the greater Clear Lake area. The Houston/Webster side is suburban with some urban qualities, while League City is completely suburban, and borderline country which is why we didn't buy a house there. (Country people do country things... blah) But there are a lot of plains/prairie open for expansion and it is growing very fast. However all of that is not too far of a drive from the unique eateries, nightlife, etc found on the Houston side. In town, along Main St is lined with some big old live oak trees on both sides... They rival anything you'll see in the old, nicer parts of Houston. To the north there is a nice park along Hwy 3 & Clear Creek... same oaks, only 200 years older. There is some boat traffic along the creek and there are community events going on there sometimes. Otherwise, it's a great place for a quiet picnic. So that's what I know about the area. It's pretty nice overall.
As far as jobs go, you are equidistant between Downtown & Galveston, and the Clear Lake area has large business centers of its own. So you have an entire corridor at your disposal if you're willing to commute. You may get lucky-- be located in Clear Lake and scrap the commute. Just remember I-45 traffic between exit #'s 23-26 are under major construction right now.

Thanks.. My wife and I think it would be best place for our kids too.. I hear the schools there are top notch!
The League City Web page is very nice... My Wife is a Banquette Server for a club on Fort Bliss.. parties as big as 2500. Would she be able to find work there ya think? I am Security Specialist.. I would think with all the industry there there would be a need for my skills?

The schools are good, part of Clear Creek ISD. You could also consider living on the Houston or Friendswood sides of the region, as they are in CCISD as well. Both are also nice. Remember though- as you venture towards Houston, or towards the water things get more expensive per sq ft.
As far as jobs, I'm not sure. Your wife shouldn't have a problem with the hotels on the lake as well as the ones in Galveston. Security is always needed, right?

You might have your wife contact South Shore Harbour resort, Bay Oaks Country Club, etc. about jobs - they'd be close to home if you live in League City plus there are plans for some new hotels in the NASA Parkway area soon too.

Tuscan lakes is an exurb/bedroom community that just popped up recently. Those AM-radio Tuscan Lakes commercials were geared towards the snobs, which is another thing League City & Clear Lake has plenty of. The country element of League City I saw every working day for nearly 2 yrs is spread all over the older part of town and south towards Dickinson. It's not 'country' as in small-town-Texas, but 'country' as in a mostly white community experiencing a lot of growing pain as the city swallows them up. You can find this attitude in the lower-end parts of Bay Colony, another exurb neighborhood that popped up recently close to the new HEB. Bay Colony has a lower end that attracted some country-folk a few years back & turned into a bit of a subprime zone.
League City's footprint is bigger & emptier than most people realize, and there is a lot of land for horses & other livestock if that's what you want. It has a high income overall but it's definitely not just upscale.

Yeah, South Shore is old money... or California money... still very nice.
Maybe I'm wrong but I believe Bay Colony is part League City / part Dickinson. League city goes all the way out west through undeveloped fields to the Alvin border. I do know when 646 passes 517 going south, that's Dickinson. And not far after 517 is Santa Fe... which is prayer-in-school, cowboy church, child molester, KKK country. You can have that ****.
Again, League City is a pretty large town square-mileage-wise so you can really find everything mentioned thus far in this post & then some.

Santa Fe is changing as are most cities -- that is an old reputation - yeah those people are probably still there but so too are a bunch of other people just trying to move farther out of the city.
