Houston Hospitals
So what is the scuttlebutt on the hosptials in the area. What ones have a good rep vs bad rep? It's time for us to choose a health plan with the new job and I am trying to decide HMO(which I am not really a fan of, but will help monitarily) or PPO...

Texas Medical Center is where it's at. People come from all over the world to be treated in its hospitals. We just had an internationally renowned poet die in one this past weekend, unfortunately.

Answers would depend on what part of town you live in. I have always been pleased with the services and physicians that use Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital - it is on the west side of Houston on I-10. I have also noticed that several of the major hospitals from the Med Center are building satellite facilities out in the Katy area, also off I-10.

We aren't quite sure where we will end up, yet, but probably somewhere between 30-60 minutes W/NW/N/NE/E of Houston...I know that is a large swath...10/45/59

The best hospitals in Houston are St. Luke's and Methodist (for most issues); MD Anderson (for cancer); Texas Children's (prediatrics). Memorial Hermann has an excellent ER/trauma center; otherwise, good but not quite as good as Luke's.
The outlying suburban hospitals -- many of which are affiliated with giant Memorial Hermann -- are typical U.S. hospitals (i.e. hit or miss on any given day depending on staffing, individual skills/style, etc.).

I have heard nothing but good things about the Methodist hospital in Sugar Land. Plus St. Luke's and Memorial are expanding to the area.
