Default Home Insurance

Home Insurance! What are the best options?

Currently, we have car insurance with Geico but they don't have their own home insurance. What are some other good options?

Look here for stats, prices, options, etc.: Consumer Help from the Texas Department of Insurance from the Texas Department of Insurance

I have Liberty Mutual and am very satisfied, especially with their customer service policies.

We had Amica for many years and they were very price competitive (still have them for auto insruance). However, they wouldn't cover our new home because it is too old, so we switched to Nationwide. Good prices, no complaints so far.

We have had Farmers for many many years. FYI, if you have your home AND
vehicles insured with them, they give you a pretty decent discount..
Other companies may do the same, but I know for a fact Farmers does.

Hi MissDaisy,

yeah if we have auto and house with the same company they do give discounsts. we called AllState but they have a policy that you must be with them for 60 days before getting the home insurance. the lady told us that she can put us on renters insurance but we are not sure since we need to get qualiified for the loan and one of the requirements the bank is asking is the home owners insurnace proof.

Allstate gave us these rates:

Home insurance: 900/annually

car insurance: 1200 annually (2 cars)

I think this is just too much. We currently have geico for car insurance which is only 443 for two cars for 6 months.

Sounds about right to me. You must also consider flood insurance which will be at least another 250.

$1200 sounds high for 2 cars. I only pay $500 for 2 vehicles. Do you have a lot of optional coverages or past accidents?
