Hi folks!

My husband and I are moving to Houston within a month with our 1 year old daughter. He will be working in the energy corridor and we were advised to stay in the zip 77077 to make his commute easier. We thought we'd stay in an apt. complex for 6 months or so, then later decide about where we want to live for the long run.

We are considering the following complexes:

Marquis on Briar Forest
Villages of Briar Forest
Biarritz (S. of Briar Forest, and closer to Westheimer, but it has good reviews)

Any advice or other suggestions would be MOST appreciated! I'm freaking out! I've never lived in a big city before, and I want to find a safe neighborhood for my little girl too (somewhere that we will be able to go for walks, etc. She loves to see trees and flowers) Thank you for your help

77079 and 77024 are nicer and just as easy of a commute. Probably a little more costly. What's you budget?

I Recommend Alexan at Memorial Bend or The Pines.

Townhome leases at Hudson Oaks.

Go to HAR.COM and look at Residental Leases for Townhouses. Often the same amount as apartments but safer and better locations.

I live in 77077.
be careful between Briar Forest and westheimer, there are some undesirable complexes in the area.

there are some good and safe townhome communities in the area. You will get what you pay for.

check reviews on apt complexes, its hit or miss.

Thanks, EasilyAmused. Our budget is around 850-1000 per month. A 1 bedroom is okay, since this will be just temporary.

I didn't see The Pines --can you tell me what street they are on, please?

I really appreciate your help.

THe Pines is a townhouse Rental on Memorial at Beltway 8. Lease rates are from around 800-1400. Here is one listing 12633 Memorial Dr 8, Houston, TX 77024

Little father east is Hudson Oaks, but the drive is totally doable in under 15 minutes down Memorial. Great, safe complex. Here's lease 11711 Memorial 119, Houston, TX 77024

For an apartment, I suggest these, Alexan Memorial Bend. But I think the rents may be higher than what you want. Alexan Memorial Bend Apartments at 12707 Boheme Houston, TX 77024 (713)464-8001 presented by Cities4Rent

Another complex we were considering was the Park on Memorial. It seemed a little pricey though for such a small place. Anyone have info. on that complex? We liked it because my daughter LOVES trees and is used to having them around. It's supposed to be wooded. Also, one review said that there were lots of squirrels and kids there --both things that she would be interested in!

I'm sure the complex is good. Fingers runs nice apartments. The proximity to the Terry Hershy Park is great, and a place I HIGHLY recommend....just.... I really don't like that section of Memorial. It's rather trashy in some areas around there and some really undesirable areas down Tully and Dairy Ashford.

However, a friend of mine has her geriatric father living there, so it must be rather nice over all.
