I think you should feel free to live anywhere you want to live and just be yourself. Forget about these snobby people that want to look down upon someone else because you do not have what they have. Life is too short. I live in The Woodlands and don't even own a house there are many income brackets in The Woodlands. I am thinking about purchasing a house here when I gradute from The Univeristy Center. The Woodlands is becoming more diverse with all ethnicity groups. I do love the trees and market street and you do not have to leave the woodlands for anything.

I am with Tasksgirl - try har.com and look in town. You sound like a good fit for Oak Forest / Garden Oaks or the Heights (Cha-Ching)
those zips are: 77018 77092 77007 77008
and all of these hoods have their own sites - just google 'em.
The Woodlands is really pretty but really burbia to me.
and HISD has lots of ways to get into really great public schools. like to pimp mine now.... just kidding. ( but it is in the Heights lol)
and good luck to u!

The posts on these boards sound like a political discussion where you are either on one side or the other, no gray area. Always find it funny when people who don't live in The Woodlands are all too eager to jump in and answers questions about The Woodlands and suggest their preferred part of the Houston area as the alternative.
We have lived in The Woodlands for eight years, have five children, are a two religion couple that does not strictly follow either and are very laid back when it comes to our children. We live in an area where the houses are under $200k and the incomes mush less than that. People are friendly and we have not experienced any of the folks being described here over the course of all these years. Perhaps its the company these posters keep that gives them the false impression of The Woodlands.
There can never be any generalization of such a large (80k+) group of people, and posters who try to say otherwise has some issues they need to deal with first on their own before shooting their opinion at others. If anything, Woodlands is a lot better than the rest of the state which is a predominantly social and religiously conservative state.

Default Just moved here a month ago.

I'm a mom of 3 kids who aren't involved in anything at the moment. My husband and I are very laid back. I did a lot of research about areas around Houston before committing to an area. We moved to the Woodlands a little over a month ago. I love it. Everything you need is right here and it's beautiful. You will have people of all kinds everywhere you go. I have found everyone to be very friendly here. We moved from the north...OH, and people are different in the north. My kids like it here. We live in Grogan's Mill which is the oldest village in the Woodlands. It's also very close to all the shopping. There are nature trails and parks everywhere here....you may have to hunt to find them though. LOL!

Oh come on you downers of The Woodlands. There are plenty of people there that aren't into over-scheduling or what I like to call "Zombie-izing" their children. We know several that are just like us.

The thing is, bhfbonds, it doesn't matter where you are in Houston. There are always superparents in EVERY city, every neighborhood. We have TONS over here in Memorial, with little cutesy soccer and cheer stickers on oversized SUV's...and if you don't see those, you see Kinkaid stickers or Fay School stickers showing off the fact that their kids go to private schools. So, the bottom line is yes, there are people just like you in The Woodlands--many people move there just TO be laid back because of the relaxing atmosphere. Your life and your friends will be what YOU make them. I think you'll love it there.

I think you misunderstood it. I was saying with your family being laid back and all and NOT uppity, the Woodlands could use more people such as your family. That way the laid back with out number the stuckup crowd.

I just wanted to add that if you are concerned...there are other options like North Spring, like I was mentioning above BUT, it really is your choice. There will be snooty and annoying people anywhere you go. You make your home the way you like it. I'm sure the nice people outweigh the rude people, we are in Texas after all. I have heard negative things from previous owners from the Woodlands that moved to my area, Cypress, which I love. However, everybody will have a different opinion. The only negative I find with the Woodlands is the congestion because it has grown so much with people and everytime I'm there to visit a friend or show a house, it is very trafficky and time consuming just to make your way somewhere within it and to the freeway. Moved here six years ago specifically because I wanted a uniformed, predictable place to call home. If you have ever watched your home devalue because your neighbor painted their house purple with blue trim, or watched your public school system go down the toilet, you will understand this. Yes, you will pay higher taxes, MUD fees, and HOA fees, but you will also come home daily to a nice, relatively crime-free, litter free, yard trimmed, with no more than two dogs outside at one time Utopia. It's worth it to me!

The people of The Woodlands are rude. They are quite anal at things.
