Wink A question about THE PEOPLE of The Woodlands

Ok. So my family will be moving to The Woodlands "area" within the next 6-9 months and I have some concerns and questions about being in the Woodlands. We are a very laid back family (4 kids ages 9,11,14 and 16). We don't overschedule our kids and I'm not a soccer mom. We love rock music and just hanging around the house. We don't go to church, my husband and I have both had several bad experiences with organized religion. But we aren't atheists or anything like that. We love good food, going out to eat and hanging around with friends for a few drinks. My question is, are there any other families in the Woodlands like us? Everything I've read is like soccer moms, super religious, kids that do 4 sports, you know, the super families. We are NOT that. So maybe we would be happier in another neighborhood? All "nice" suggestions appreciated!

I think Conroe would be a little more your place. Its further north than The Woodlands, but its also more laid back & there is a huge nice lake there with plenty of restaurants & shopping to keep you happy. Some people stigmatize Conroe as being a redneck town though...

Laid back is the last term I would use to describe many of the residents of The Woodlands.

Your family sounds just like mine and we lived very happily in the Woodlands for 7 years. There were lots of people like us. There are rich snobby people everywhere, not just in the Woodlands. You will love it. I wish I was still there. If I moved back to the Houston area that is where I would move to.

There are families similar to yours in The Woodlands but there are indeed a number of "super families". You can find something similar to that in most of the newer, up and coming communities outside the city limits as well as some in the city limits. My guess is that you'll find some of both no matter where you chose. The key is kind of settling in long enough and then playing it by ear.

Um, I am going to be there in a week. Will you be my friend? I shake a mean martini, my husband plays guitar and I don't own any soccer-mom-mandated-spandex or work-out "outfits"! I EVEN WORK!!!! (gasp!)
LOL.... ok, I figure there are 80,000+ people there... I am bound to find some like-minded friends.

Default People in the woodlands

Hey, Alaska, we're good to go, your comment actually made me laugh out loud! Thanks for all the comments guys. My husband and I were just thinking how fun it would be, in a way, if you could pick your neighbors and your house! Because we will only know one other couple when we move there and that's on a business level. So I just thought I would ask some direct questions, I like a lot of what I've read here and the sense of humor. Now, just tell me where to move to find it!
