I deal with it by paying $400 - $500 a month in electric bills.
I can't take the heat, so we crank up the A/C. Also, I have asthma, so being in this humidy is difficult sometimes.

On the plus side, you will find here some of the best mexican food you've ever tasted! Plus, HEB (grocery store.)
coog78 said it best, drink lots of margaritas!

After living in Houston for many years, I couldn't deal with it anymore. I moved to Massachusetts.

It is, hands down, the biggest drawback of living in Houston (the abominable traffic being second worst). Yeah, yeah, we all know the tired "we don't have to shovel snow" cliches. But lemme tell you: I shovel snow for 30 minutes to an hour, 6-10 days per year (and if I wasn't a cheapskate I could have one of the neighborhood kids shovel my driveway for me and I wouldn't have to do it at all). I'll take that minor inconvenience for not not dealing with the infernal Houston heat for 16 hours a day for months on end. And, no, we don't get below zero in the winter -- I'm right on the water and the ocean moderates the temperature.

I experienced the Houston heat. Yeah, sunny days are nice. But I prefer the four seasons.

You can get use to it if you want to. I'd rather have four seasons too. But you can get use to it. But it's been cooling off in Texas from what I see over the past few weeks.

I haven't seen direct sunlight in a week or so for all the storms.

Right now, it's pretty pleasant outside. A little wet on the ground, but hey...

Don't get too comfortable because by Sunday it's GAME ON!! and we start to fry again. But, the upside is that we only have about one more month left of the really bad stuff, then we start getting some upper 80's breaks.

I am kicking myself for working through the afternoon when I should have been outside taking a walk and enjoying the pleasant weather while it lasts!

You may only shovel snow a few times a year but that wet cold lasts and lasts, until almost May sometimes! ...really can create a lot of seasonal depression! I won't miss that part of Philly this winter! Frankly I feel like I've adjusted to the heat here already...it's all in the mindset. Now my hair on the other hand, does NOT like this humidity.

My hair looks ridiculous here. Last Sunday I took extra care with it (which I really hate to do as I'm a busy mom and I really don't want to be wasting time messing with my hair), sprayed it with some stuff that some hair stylist promised would eliminate frizz, and went to church. By the time I walked with my children from the parking lot to their classrooms and dropped them off, then went into a ladies room before services, I glanced in the mirror and saw a FRIGHTFUL mass of frizz that was my hair. It looked horrible! And I hadn't brought anything to create a ponytail, so I just smoothed it the best I could and tried to remember that hardly anyone knows me yet so maybe it doesn't matter. But yikes, I need to figure out something I can do to help my hair deal with the humidity better.

I live in the midwest now and summers a pretty decent. i know in Houston there are long stretches of 100 degree weather. I guess I cannot hang outside anymore.

Does Houston have summer time outdoor evets?

Or do people just stay in the house in the summer time.........
I have lived in Houston 32 years and in Texas 53 years and I am still not used the excessive heat and humidity, don't forget the humidity! I deal with it by staying inside from May till November. If heat bothers you, you won't like it here. While the temperature doesn't always go over 100, the heat index is almost always over 100 during the summer. I HATE the weather here. Yes we have an outside event, it's called sweating

If you don't mind the snow where you're living, I would suggest staying where you are as well. The heat is awful and even though I don't live in Houston, Dallas is terrible too. It has high humidity although not as high as Houston.

There were many days this summer with triple digit temperatures, up to 110 which felt hotter adding in the humidity. It's miserable having to stay in most of the summer or just suffocate outside. One can't truly enjoy the outdoors as dangerously hot as it often gets and it makes many people very cranky, I for one.

Drinking margaritas will not keep you cool. They only benefit is they might make you unaware of how terrible the heat truly is because you'll be too inibriated to care.

I've been doing ILNC's freezer trick lately. I can't stand the heat and will often open the freezer to blow some really frigid air on myself.

Fall is truly the best time of the year in Texas, after October, but I'm sure Fall is delightful where you are as well. Winter is nice too because I love the cold and Spring, well, it's okay when it's not humid but many days are and are quite uncomfortable.
